5 Common Mistakes by CAT Aspirants

Consistently more than 3 lakh aspirant appear for CAT exam conducted by IIMs (Indian Institutes of Management). The greater part of candidates fails to clear CAT (Common Admission Test) every year. The main purpose for this failure is the common mistakes. Preparing for CAT exam is not an easy task. Even after thorough preparation, most of the aspirant fails to score higher percentile.


Here are the most common and repetitive mistakes committed by CAT aspirants.


1.    Not maintaining study plan and proper notes: Preparing a study plan and maintaining notes is good practice to start the exam preparations. Referring the class notes during exams will be beneficial as it contains the important concepts, points and formulas explained by lectures. Study plan also helps in completing the CAT syllabus on time.

2.    Losing hope: Most of the students lose their hope before the day of their exams. Do not be tense, have a positive taught towards your preparations and encourage yourself to crack CAT.

3.    Stop guessing during an exam: Never try to guess answers as there will be negative marks, which may decrease your total score. Just attend the question if you know it or just move to the next question. The previous question can be attended once you complete the paper.

4.    Skipping previous years’ question papers: To clear this exam, a lot of preparation is required. A student needs to refer more books, question banks, mock papers, model papers and previous year papers. Few students skip solving model papers and previous years question papers due to the lack of time or they may just ignore it. Solving more number of question papers help students to improve their time management and makes them thorough about the exam pattern. Additionally there are more chances of questions getting repeated from these papers and moreover, these question papers cover entire CAT syllabus.

5.    Wasting too much of time on a single question: Question asked in CAT exams are really difficult and time-consuming, hence students need to be faster in answering the questions. Try to increase the speed of calculating and writing. Never waste your time on a single question for cracking the answers. Just rush to those questions, which you are more familiar with.
