National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination (I), 2009

The Union Public Service Commission will hold the National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination (I), 2009 on 19th April, 2009 for admission to Army, Navy and Air Force Wings of NDA for 123rd Course and Naval Academy for 43rd 10+2 (Executive Branch) Course commencing from 30th December, 2009.

Salient features of the examination are published herein for general information of candidates. For details regarding the Syllabus and Scheme of the examination, Centers of examination, Guidelines for filling up application form etc. aspirants must consult the Detailed Notice of the examination published in the Employment News/Rozgar Samachar dated 18th October, 2008.

2. CONDITIONS OF ELIGIBILITY

(a) Age Limits, Sex and Marital Status :

Only unmarried male candidates born not earlier than 2nd January, 1991 and not later than 1st July, 1993 are eligible.

(b) Educational Qualifications:

(i) For Army Wing of National Defence Academy: • 12th Class pass of 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination conducted by a State Education Board or a University.

(ii) For Air Force and Naval Wings of National Defence Academy and for 10+2 (Executive Branch) Course of Naval Academy: 12th Class pass of the10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination with Physics and Mathematics, conducted by a State Education Board or a University.

Candidates who are appearing in 12th Class under 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination can also apply for this Examination.

(c) Physical Standards :

Candidates must be physically fit according to the physical standards for admission to National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination (I), 2009 as given in Appendix-V of Commission’s Notice for Examination published in Employment news/Rozgar Samachar dated 18th October, 2008.





3. APPLICATION FORM :

The Candidates must apply in the Common Application Form devised by the Commission for its examinations which can be purchased from the designated Head Post Offices/Post Offices (specified in Appendix-lll of the Notice) throughout the country against cash payment of Rs.20/- (Rupees twenty only). Each such Form can be used only once and only for one examination.

In case of any difficulty in obtaining Application Forms from the designated HPOs/POs, the candidates should immediately contact the concerned Post Master or UPSC`s "FORMS SUPPLY MONITORING CELL" over Telephone No.011-23389366 , Fax No.011—23387310.

4. FEE :

Rs.50/- (Rupees fifty only) through Central Recruitment Fee Stamp only. SC/ST candidates are exempted from payment of Fee. (OBC candidates are required to pay full fee).

5. ADDRESS AND LAST DATE FOR RECEIPT OF APPLICATIONS :

All applications must reach the "Secretary, Union Public Service Commission, Dholpur House, Shahjahan Road, New Delhi – 110 069" either by hand or by Post/Speed Post or by Courier, on or before the 17th November, 2008.

However, in respect of candidates residing abroad or in certain remote localities specified in the Notice the last date for receipt of applications by Post/Speed Post only (not by Hand or by Courier) is 24th November, 2008.

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE)

Important Notice for PGDM Institutions

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has laid down guidelines for admission of students to PGDM programmes in AICTE approved institutions (available at AICTE website: www.aicte.ernet.in ). In order to streamline the admission procedure being followed by technical institutions, AICTE is in the process of allotment of AICTE official Enrolment Nos. to the students admitted in PGDM programme(s) (with all specializations) in AICTE approved institutions.

All AICTE approved PGDM institutions were requested vide Letter dated 23.09.2008 to send the detailed information as per the prescribed format (both hard and soft copy) of students admitted in PGDM programme(s) for the academic years 2007-2009 & 2008-2010, duly certified by the Head of institution by October 10, 2008. The institutions were also advised to host the same information on the institute’s official website. On the basis of this information, the Council shall issue its official Enrolment Nos. to the students and also host the same on AICTE website.

The above information is still awaited from a number of institutions. The Council has decided to give these institutions a last opportunity through this advertisement, to submit the information by October 24, 2008 positively to Adviser (M & T), All India Council for Technical Education, 7th Floor, Chanderlok Building, Janpath, New Delhi 110 001, failing which necessary action including no admission/ withdrawal of approval shall be taken against such defaulting institutions.

Admission to PhD Programme, to start from January 2009

Applications are invited for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programme, starting in January 2009. The Departments/Centres and areas in which this programme will be offered are:

Eligibility: A) PhD in Engineering:


For admission to the PhD Programme in Engineering departments, a candidate must satisfy one of the following criteria:

i) Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology/ Medical Sciences/ Veterinary Sciences/Pharmacy in a relevant area with a minimum Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of 6.5 or 60% of marks.

ii) Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology/ Medical Sciences in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70% of marks.

iii) Bachelor’s degree from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0.

iv) A candidate having MSc degree with Mathematics as a subject at bachelor’s level is also considered for admission in the Department of Civil Engineering.The candidate should have a minimum of 7.5 CPI or 70% marks in Master’s level with consistent first class at other levels.

v) A candidate with MSc in a relevant area is also considered for admission to the Department of Biotechnology. The Candidate should have a minimum of 7.5 CPI or 70% marks in Master’s level.

vi) A regular student of IIT Guwahati who is continuing his/her MTech studies and having a minimum CPI of 8.0 at the end of second semester may be enrolled in the PhD programme of the Department in the beginning of his/her third semester of study. Such students can receive only PhD Degree.

B) PhD in Design:

For admission to the PhD Programme in Design, a candidate must satisfy one of the following criteria:

i) Candidates having MArch/MDes degree or MTech/ ME degree in a relevant area, with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% of marks.

ii) Master’s degree in Applied Arts/Ergonomics/ Fine Arts/ Psychology/ Physiology with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% marks.

iii)Bachelor’s degree in Design or Engineering/ Technology in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70% of marks.

iv) Bachelor’s degree from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0.

v) A two-year Post-graduate Diploma in Design (NID/CEPT or equivalent) with first class at Bachelor’s level.

vi) BFA (4-year professional programme, after 10+2)/GD Art (5-year programme after 10th standard) with one year professional experience, with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70% of marks.

vii) A regular student of IIT Guwahati who is continuing his/her MDes studies and having a minimum CPI of 8.0 at the end of second semester may be enrolled in the PhD programme of the Department in the beginning of his/her third semester of study. Such students can receive only PhD Degree.

C) PhD in Science:

For admission to the PhD Programme in Science departments, a candidate must satisfy one of the following criteria:

i) Master’s degree in Science in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% of marks.

ii) Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology/ Design in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% of marks.

iii) Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology/ Design from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0.

iv) Bachelor’s degree in a related area in Engineering/Technology/Design (from other than IITs) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70% of marks.





D) PhD in Humanities and Social Sciences:

For admission to the PhD Programme in the department of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS), a candidate must satisfy one of the following criteria:

i) Master’s degree in Arts/Commerce/Science in a relevant area with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent.

ii) Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology/ Design in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% marks.

iii) Bachelor’s degree from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0.

iv)Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology/ Design (from other than IITs) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70% marks.

E) PhD in Centres:


i) Master’s Degree in Engineering/Technology/ Design/Architecture/Medical Sciences in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% of marks.

ii)Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology/ Medical Sciences in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70% of marks.

iii) Bachelor’s degree from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0.

iv)Master’s degree in Science in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% marks.

v) Master’s degree in Social Sciences, in a relevant area, with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% marks, is also considered for admission to the Centre for the Environment.

MININMUM EXPERIENCE FOR SPONSORED, SELF-FINANCED, PART-TIME AND EXTERNAL CATEGORIES:

1. Candidate in Sponsored, Part-time and External categories must be a regular employee of the sponsoring organisation with at least one year of professional experience in the respective field.

2. Candidates in Self-financed category should have at least one year of professional experience in the respective field.

Relaxation for SC/ST Candidates: Eligibility criteria will be relaxed by 5% marks or 0.5 CPI for SC/ST applicants
