Eligibility Criteria

For GDPD:

Admission is open to students who have passed or who will appear for qualifying examinations under the Higher Secondary (10+2), or equivalents like AISSCE/ IB/ ICSE etc. Candidates passing the Institute’s admission tests/interviews will be admitted, subject to passing their qualifying examinations before they join the Institute. Competence in technical and related subjects will normally be considered an advantage. The medium of instruction for UG programme at NID is English.

Upper age limit for candidates is 20 years (relaxable by 3 years for reserved categories) as on June 1, 2011.

For PGDPD:

Candidates having a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent including those who will be appearing for the qualifying examinations during the academic year (2010-11) in the areas mentioned against each discipline are eligible to apply. Those applying for two programmes should send separate application form for each programme. One cannot apply for more than two PG Programmes. The medium of instruction for PG Programme at NID is English.

Upper age limit for candidates is 30 years (relaxable by 3 years for reserved categories) as on June 1, 2011.

Application Procedure

For General Category: Forms can be downloaded from NID’s website www.nid.edu/downloads and sent along with a DD of Rs 1500/- drawn on any nationalized bank in favour of ‘National Institute of Design’ payable at Ahmedabad. Forms can also be obtained from select branches of Bank of India (listed below) on payment of Rs.1,500/- towards the cost of the form plus Rs.50/- as bank charges.

Forms can also be obtained from select branches of Bank of India on payment of Rs.1500/- towards the cost of the form plus Rs.50/- as bank charges w.e.f 14th October, 2010.

For Reserved Category: Forms at concessional rates to reserved categories are available only from Admissions Office, NID, Ahmedabad. These forms can be obtained from Admissions Office directly by sending a Demand Draft drawn on any nationalized bank in favour of ‘National Institute of Design’ payable at Ahmedabad for Rs.750/-.

The applicant should also send in an attested copy of the relevant certificate from competent authority and a self addressed envelope of 9” x 12” size with Rs.40/- stamps affixed.

The envelope should be marked with ‘NID ADMISSIONS 2011’.

Ph.D. in Engineering:

1. Masters degree in the relevant branch of Engineering with a minimum Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of 6.5 or 60% of marks.

Masters degree in Science/ Engineering/ Agriculture/ Environment Sciences/ International Business with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% marks may be considered for research areas consistent with the academic background and special interests.

2. B.Tech. from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) with a minimum CPI of 7.0.

Selection Process: The Institute will decide the section-wise as well as total cut-off marks which will be used for short-listing the candidates to be called for Group Discussion and Personal Interview.

GD & PI will be held in Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai.

Candidates will have to meet their own travel expenses for appearing in the GD & PI. The final selection will be made on the basis of the candidate's performance in the XAT as well as in the Group Discussion and Personal Interview (which factors in the past academic record and relevant work experience). The selected candidates will be informed by mail by the first week of April 2011.

Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED) 2011

CEED is a qualifying examination for the following postgraduate programmes in design:

ii) Professional Diploma of NID / Professional Diploma of CEPT (5 year program) or equivalent

iii) B.F.A. (4 year professional programme, after 10+2)

iv) G.D. Art (5 year programme, after 10th) followed by one year professional experience

v) Master's degree in Arts / Science / Computer Applications

Note: All Degree/Diploma/Professional courses must satisfy 10+2+4 pattern or more

Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Thiruvananthapuram (IISER)

Applications are invited from highly motivated students for admission to the Ph.D. programme beginning in January, 2011 at IISER-TVM.

Eligibility Criteria

Biological Sciences


Masters degree in Biological/Chemical/Physical Sciences or MBBS. 60% marks or equivalent is desirable. Qualifying in one of the following national level tests with validity as on 1st of January 2011: CSIR-UGC-JRF/ DBT-JRF/ GATE/ ICMR JRF. The second requirement (qualifying in a national test) is waived for applicants interested in pursuing a Ph.D. in ecological sciences. They will however be required to appear for a written screening test at IISER -TVM and only those shortlisted based on the screening will be allowed to appear for the interview.

Chemical Sciences

Masters degree in Chemistry. 60% marks or equivalent is desirable. Qualifying in one of the following national level tests with validity as on 1st of January 2011: CSIR-UGC-JRF/ GATE.

Physical Sciences

Masters degree in Physical Sciences, Engineering or Technology in areas closely related to the interests of the physics faculty at IISER TVM. 60% marks or equivalent is desirable. Qualifying in one of the following national level tests with validity as on 1st of January 2011: JEST/GATE/CSIRUGC-JRF. Applicants with M. Tech need a GATE score valid as of 1st January 2010
Mathematical Sciences

Master’s degree in Mathematics / Statistics / in a relevant area of science with desired CPI of 6.5 (or 60% of marks) and a valid CSIR UGC-JRF/NBHM/GATE/INSPIRE (PhD) as on 1st January 2011.
Master’s degree in Engineering / Technology in a relevant area with desired CPI of 6.5 (or 60% of marks) with valid GATE score as on 1st January 2010.

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology in a relevant area with a desired CPI of 7.0 (or 65% of marks), an appearance in the Indian National Math Olympiad (INMO) in class XI or XII, and a valid CSIRUGC-JRF/ NBHM/ GATE/ INSPIRE (PhD) as on 1st January 2011.
Eligibility criterion will be relaxed by CPI of 0.5 (or 5% of marks) for SC/ST candidates.

XLRI

Applications are invited for admission to Full Time and Part Time Doctoral Programmes (FPM) in Management

Areas of Specializations: Economics, Finance, Information Systems, Marketing, Operations Management, Organizational Behaviour, Human Resource Management and Strategic Management

Eligibility Criteria

For FPM (Full Time): A Master's degree or its equivalent in any discipline with at least 55% marks (50% for SC/ST candidates) with the Bachelor’s degree/ equivalent qualification with at least 60 % marks (55% for SC/ST candidates) obtained after a minimum of three years of education after completing higher secondary education (10+2) or equivalent,

OR

a professional qualification like CA, ICWA or CS with at least 55% marks (50% for SC/ST candidates) OR

BE/B.Tech degree or its equivalent with at least 60% marks (50% for SC/ST candidates) and 2 years of relevant work experience are eligible to apply.

The applicant must hold a Bachelors/Masters degree of any of the universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an act of parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under section 3 of UGC act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India, or possess an equivalent qualification from an institution approved by AICTE. Non-fulfillment of these conditions will automatically result in cancellation of the admission.

The calendar for the admission of the FPM candidates is same as that for the students of the PGPs. The admission requires two sequential online processes. Interested candidates are required to (1) apply online to take the XLRI Admissions Test (XAT) and (2) apply online to XLRI for the FPM.

Instead of taking the XAT, FPM candidates can also submit GMAT/ GRE/ GATE/ UGC JRF (research) results taken during the year January 2009 and December 2010. Those who have done their PGP from XLRI, any IIM, MDI Gurgaon, FMS Delhi or XIM Bhubaneswar, with a CQPI of at least 6.00/8.00 or equivalent will also be exempted from appearing in the XAT. Those who wish not to take the XAT should visit www.xlri.ac.in/research and follow the instructions for applying to XLRI for the FPM

For Executive (Part Time FPM):
