IISc BS Admission 2013


The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore invites applications for admission into Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree Programs 2013-17. These programs are interdisciplinary in nature. Following study options are available –


  • B.S. Biology
  • B.S. Chemistry
  • B.S. Environmental Science 
  • B.S. Materials 
  • B.S. Mathematics 
  • B.S. PhysicsStudents who pursue any of the above courses will also take course in humanities and engineering so they apply research knowledge in engineering and social solutions in real terms with sound understanding of subject and its applications. The program duration is 4 years (8 Semesters).

Application fee is Rs. 400/- for GN/OBC/KM candidates and Rs. 200/- for SC/ST/PH categories.

Eligibility Criteria – Candidates who have passed in Class 12th / PUC or equivalent with qualification in any one of the following National Level Examination are eligible to apply for IISc B.S Program


  • KVPY-SA (appeared in 2011 and selected as Fellow)
  • KVPY-SB (appeared in 2012 and selected as Fellow) 
  • KVPY-SX (appeared in 2012 and selected as Fellow) 
  • KVPY Fellows selected through the Empowerment Initiative for SC/ST candidates
  • IIT-JEE (Main) (appearing in 2013)
  • IIT-JEE (Advanced) (appearing in 2013)
  • NEET-UG (appearing in 2013)

Selection Criteria IISc BS Program 2013-17


The IISc B.S Admission Office shall prepare merit list of candidates on the basis of marks obtained / performance in above listed exam. The candidates who have appeared in multiple qualifying exam will be included in all suitable lists. Reservation shall be offered on the basis of government rules for different category candidates.

IISc BS Admission 2013 Timeline



  • For KVPY candidates- May 2013.
  • For others - June 2013. More offers for admission will be made in July 2013.
  • Counseling session will be held for final offer of admission
  • Classes will commence from 1 August 2013.


The BS program is fully residential program. Hostel facilities are offered to boys and girls.

UPSC allowed regional languages in Civil Services main Exam


Good news for civil services who wants to write civil services main exam in regional language. Now with the new amendments aspirants will be able to civil services main exam in chosen regional language. Now aspirants can also chose literature of any of the 22 language list in 8th schedule and English as optional paper even if they have not studied the same in college level. Minimum qualification to appear for UPSC Civil Services Main Exam is qualified in Civil Services Preliminary Exam.

Under the new pattern the marks obtained in English will not be counted for preparing final merit list for service selection of IAS, IPS, IFS, IRS etc. The maximum marks for essay paper increased to 250. (Earlier essay paper was given 200 marks maximum). The Civil Services Main Exam will now be of 1750 marks, which should be distributed as Four papers of General Studies – 1000 Marks, two papers of an optional subject 500 marks and essay paper 250 marks. As per the amendment, the English component (of 100 marks ) from the essay paper will also be dropped and the two qualifying papers of 300 marks each in any modern Indian language and in English — as in previous years — will be restored.
