Eligibility: For M.Tech: A pass in Eligible Degree (B.E. / B.Tech / Equivalent ) ; Candidates in the final Semester of the qualifying degree programme are eligible to apply.

For M.S. (By Research):

Bachelor’s Degree in appropriate branch of engineering. A pass in the qualifying examination. Candidates in the final Semester of the qualifying degree programme are eligible to apply.

For M.Sc.:

Minimum of 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA in the qualifying examination, for General category and mere pass for SC/ST candidates. Candidates in the final semester of the qualifying degree programme are eligible to apply.

For Ph.D.:

Candidates with first class or minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5 in a scale of 10) in UG or PG are eligible for admission under General Category. For SC / ST candidates, a pass in UG and PG is sufficient.

Downloaded and filled up applications should be accompanied by prescribed application cum Registration fee of Rs.300/- (Rs.100/- for SC/ST/Persons with Disabilities) by means of Demand Draft drawn not earlier than 6th April 2009 and in favour of “DIRECTOR, NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, TIRUCHIRAPPALLI – 620015” payable at State Bank of India, NIT Branch (Code 1617) Tiruchirappalli.

IIITD invites applications for collaborative PhD program in the following three research areas:

Biometrics: collaborators are from West Virginia University, USA, Michigan State University, USA, University of Sassari, Italy, and The Honkong Polytechnic University

Data management: collaborators are from University of Aizu, Japan and IBM India Research Lab, New Delhi

Software engineering: collaborators are from IBM India Research Lab, New Delhi, Microsoft Research, Bangalore, Fraunhofer Institute of Experimental Software Engineering, Kaiserslautern, Germany, University Polytechnic Milan, Italy, Osaka University, Japan, and Saarland University, Germany

Eligibility: IIITD is looking for candidates who have good programming expertise, solid foundations in CS/Maths, and interest in pursuing research in one of the above mentioned areas.

Eligibility criteria for applying: A person who graduated within the last two years with a BTech/ BE/ MTech/ MS/ ME in CS/IT/ECE/EE with a good academic record (at least a CGPA of 7.5 or equivalent in IITs/NITs, or in the top 10% in his/her CS/IT/ECE/EE batch from other institutions). Requirements may be relaxed for candidates with publications/ R&D/software development experience in their area of interest.

Pre-Doctoral and Ph. D. Programme – 2009

The research activity in the Institute centers around the areas of theoretical and experimental condensed matter physics, nuclear physics and high energy physics.

The Predoctoral programme is designed to train fresh M.Sc. students for conducting research activities.
Eligibility: The Institute invites application for the Pre-doctoral Programme from Indian nationals having the following qualifications : –

(A) M.Sc. Physics with minimum 55% marks (in aggregate).

(B) GATE qualifiers with minimum score of 95 percentile having current validity or, CSIR / UGC- NET qualifiers (for research fellowship) within last one year.

Candidates who have qualified JEST-2009 with a minimum score of 95 Percentile need not send any application. They will be contacted directly by the Institute. If a candidate has scored less than 95 percentile in JEST-2009 but satisfies any of the criteria for GATE/NET as above, he/she should also send the application.

Candidates appearing for the final semester/ year of M.Sc., who have already qualified in GATE or CSIR/UGC-NET can also apply. They should submit the relevant proof before joining the pre-doctoral programme. In case of non-availability of the M.Sc. results at the time of joining, the admission will be treated as provisional.

Date of Entrance Test : Written Test: 18 June 2009
Admission Procedure : All eligible candidates, whether through JEST-2009 or through application against this advertisement, will have to appear for a short written test in the morning of 18 June 2009. Result of written test will be published the same day and short-listed candidates will have to appear for interview on 18-19 June, 2009. Final merit list will be based on the scores of both the written test and the interview.

During the pre-doctoral and the first year of the Ph.D. programme, students are placed in Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) grade and are paid Rs. 12,000/- p.m. fellowship.

On completion of the Pre-doctoral programme, the students are eligible to join for research under the supervision of faculty members of the Institute, leading to the Ph.D. degree awarded by Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI), a deemed-to-be university within the Department of Atomic Energy.
