Special Class Railway Apprentices Examination, 2010

The Union Public Service Commission will hold the Special Class Railway Apprentices Examination, 2010 on 19th December, 2010 for recruitment  to the Special Class Apprentices in the Mechanical Department of Indian Railways. The examination will be held at various centres across the country.

Eligibility Criteria

(a) Age Limits: Not less than 17 years and not more than 21 years on 1st August, 2010.

The upper age limit is relaxable for Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes / Other Backward Classes and certain other categories of candidates to the extent specified in the Notice.

(b) Educational Qualifications :

Must have passed in the first or second division, the intermediate or an equivalent Examination of a University or Board approved by the Government of India with Mathematics and at least one of the subjects Physics and Chemistry as subjects of the examination.

(c) Physical Standards:

Candidates must be physically fit according to the Regulations given in Appendix-ll of the Rules for the Special Class Railway Apprentices' Examination, 2010 published in the Gazette of India dated 28th August, 2010.

Application Procedure

(a) Candidates, who wish to apply offline, must apply in the Common Application Form devised by the Commission for its examinations, which can be purchased from the designated Head Post
Offices/Post Offices (specified in Appendix-lll of the Notice throughout the country against cash payment of Rs.20/- (Rupees Twenty only).

Each such Form can be used only once and only for one examination. In case of any difficulty in obtaining Application Forms from the designated HPOs/POs, the candidates should immediately contact the concerned Post Master or UPSC’s "FORMS SUPPLY MONITORING CELL" over Telephone No.011-23389366/Fax N0.011-23387310.

(b) Candidates can also apply Online using the link http://www.upsconline.nic.in Detailed instructions for filling up online applications are available on the above mentioned Website.

FEE :

(a) Candidates applying Offline (through Common Application Form) are required to pay a fee of Rs.50/- (Rupees Fifty only) through Central Recruitment Fee Stamp only.

(b) Candidates applying Online are required to pay a reduced fee of Rs.25/- (Rupees Twenty Five only) either by remitting the money in any Branch of SBI by cash, or by using net banking facility of SBI or by using Visa/Master Credit/Debit Card.

(c) All Female candidates/SC/ST and Physically Handicapped candidates are exempted from payment of Fee. (OBC candidates are required to pay full fee).

Eligibility Criteria

For all courses, where MBBS/BDS is an eligible requirement, the candidates who have made more than one attempt (i.e. more than one failure, compartment or re-appear) during their MBBS/BDS cares, are not eligible.

For DM/M.Ch courses, the candidates who have made more than one attempt in MBBS/MD/MS career are not eligible. However, those belonging to SC/ST with upto two attempts in their MBBS / BDS career will be eligible for MD/MS/MDS & House Job in Oral Health Sciences.

Candidates who completed their course in colleges coming under Zones VI to X (Salem, Coimbatore, Trichy, Karaikudi & Tirunelveli)
will have only a limited number of examination centres for the theory examinations and they have to write the examinations only at that centre. The examination centres for these candidates will be notified in due course.

Indian Army (IA)

Applications are invited from unmarried, Male Candidates who have passed 10+2 examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (Hereinafter referred to as PCM) subjects and fulfill the eligibility conditions prescribed in the subsequent paragraphs, for the grant of permanent commission in the Army after 4 years of Basic Military Training and Technical Training  thereafter with the terms and conditions given in the succeeding paragraphs.

Eligibility Criteria

(a) Nationality: A candidate must either be : (i) A citizen of India, or (ii) A subject of Bhutan, or (iii) A subject of Nepal, or (iv) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st of January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India or (v) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii), (iii), (iv) and (v) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility is necessary may be admitted to the examination provisionally subject to the necessary certificate being given to him by the Govt before declaration of result by SSB / joining training.

(b) Age Limit, Sex and Marital Status: Only unmarried male candidates are eligible for the entry. A candidate must not be below 16 & ½ years and above 19 & ½ years on the first day of the month in which the course is commencing i.e. the candidate should not be born before 01 Jan 1992 and not after 01 Jan 1995 (both days inclusive).

The date of birth accepted by the office is that entered in the Matriculation or Secondary School Leaving certificate or in the certificate recognised by an Indian University as equivalent to Matriculation or in an extract from a Register of Matriculates maintained by a University which extract must be certified by the proper authority of the University or in the Higher Secondary or an equivalent examination certificate. No other document relating to age like horoscopes, affidavits, birth extract from municipal corporation, service records and the like will be accepted. The expression Matriculation/Higher Secondary Examination Certificate in this part of the instruction includes the alternative certificate mentioned above.

NOTE 1: Candidate should note only the date of birth as recorded in the Matriculation / Higher Secondary Examination Certificate or an equivalent certificate on the date of submission of applications will be accepted and no subsequent request for its change will be considered or granted.

NOTE 2: Candidates should also note that once a date of birth has been claimed by them and entered in the records, no change will be allowed subsequently or a subsequent examination on any ground whatsoever.

NOTE 3: The Candidates should exercise due care while entering their date of birth in the application form. lf on verification at any subsequent stage any variation is found in their date of birth form one entered in their matriculation or equivalent examination certificate, disciplinary action will be taken against them under rules.

NOTE 4: Candidates must undertake not to marry until they complete their lull training. A candidate who marries subsequent to the date oi his application, though successful, will not be selected for training. A candidate who marries during training shall be discharged and will be liable to refund all expenditure incurred on him by the government.

(C) Educational qualification: Only these candidates who have passed 10+2 Examination or its equivalent with a minimum aggregate of 70% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are eligible to apply for this entry.

Selection Procedure
The selection procedure is as follows:

(a) Short listed candidates will be called for Services Selection Board (SSB) interview at Bhopal, Bangalore or Allahabad. Interviews will be held in Feb / March 2011 onwards.

(b) Duration of SSB interviews is five days excluding day of arrival. During their slay at SSB, Candidates are put through psychological Test, Group test and Interviews.

(c) Candidates will be put through stage- I of the selection procedure on the first day. Only successful candidates shall be retained for balance of the testing. Candidates who fail to qualify in stage -l, will be retuned on the first day itself, Stage I are psychologically originated test including intelligence test.

(d) Successful candidates at the SSB will be required to undergo medical test lasting 3 to 5 days less Sundays and gezetted holidays.

(e) Candidates recommended by the SSB and declared medically fit, will be appointed for training in the order of merit, depending on the number of vacancies available.

(f) One AC-III tier/AC Chair Car fare is admissible for the interview (to and fro) for the first time only.
