Eligibility Criteria: Candidates must hold the master's degree (or a degree recognized by the University as equivalent thereto) in a relevant subject from the University, or any other university or institution recognized by it, and must fulfill other prescribed conditions of eligibility.

Regular teachers of the University of Allahabad and of any institution maintained by it or admitted to its privileges and International Students are exempted from appearing at CRET for admission to D.Phil program. All other candidates for admission to the D.Phil. Programme in the concerned subjects are required to appear at CRET-2010


Application Procedure

A candidate who fulfils the minimum Eligibility Criteria and seeks to appear in CRET-2010 in a Subject that is available and is also admissible to him / her must complete, and submit through the Internet, as per modality and schedule set out in the following paras, the prescribed ON-LINE APPLICATION / REGISTRATION FORM for appearing for the Level 1 Test / Level 2 Test / Level 3 Test (as the case may be) at CRET-2010 in the concerned / admissible Subject and must remit, within due time, the admissible Test Fees to the University in the manner described below.

The TEST FEES prescribed for different categories of candidates for CRET-2010 are as follows :

a) TEST FEES for Candidates required to appear for (Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 Tests) or (Level 2 and Level 3 Tests)

For General / OBC: Rs.1000/-
For ST / SC / PH / VH: Rs.500/-

b) TEST FEES for Candidates exempt from the Level 1 and Level 2 Tests, and required to appear only for the Level 3 Test

For General / OBC: Rs.500/-
For ST / SC / PH / VH: Rs.250/-

The candidate has to separately remit the prescribed Test Fees, for the amount specified for his / her category by a Demand Draft (Bank Draft) of any national bank, drawn in favour of "DIRECTOR CRET-2010, University of Allahabad", and payable at ALLAHABAD.

The candidate should cross the Demand Draft, and write his / her full Name, Father's Name and the Subject in which he / she is to appear at CRET-2010 and Application ID generated upon successful submission of the Online Registration Form, on the reverse (back) lower left-hand corner of the Demand Draft. The candidate should also get Photo-copies (Xerox) made of the two sides of the Demand Draft, and keep them secure for his / her own reference and record.

Immediately after the successful submission of the Form candidates should get the hard copy (Print-out) of the Form from the Website by entering his/her EMAIL and PASSWORD and write his/her full signature on the back of the Photograph and then STAPLE the Photograph on the space specified for it on the hard copy of the-Form and Securely attach the Demand Draft with the hard copy of the Form and Put his/her full signature at the place provided for the purpose in the hard copy of the Form and the form should be submitted to by Registered / Speed Post to:

Note: CRET-2010 Shall have three Levels (Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3) of testing/assessment.
The Level 1 Test (multiple choice objective type test for assessing general awareness, academic aptitude and subject proficiency) and the Level 2 Test (subjective test for assessing subject expertise and research aptitude) shall be by means of Written Tests, to be conducted centrally by the University. Eligibility Criteria

For GDPD:

Admission is open to students who have passed or who will appear for qualifying examinations under the Higher Secondary (10+2), or equivalents like AISSCE/ IB/ ICSE etc. Candidates passing the Institute’s admission tests/interviews will be admitted, subject to passing their qualifying examinations before they join the Institute. Competence in technical and related subjects will normally be considered an advantage. The medium of instruction for UG programme at NID is English.

Upper age limit for candidates is 20 years (relaxable by 3 years for reserved categories) as on June 1, 2011.

For PGDPD:

Candidates having a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent including those who will be appearing for the qualifying examinations during the academic year (2010-11) in the areas mentioned against each discipline are eligible to apply. Those applying for two programmes should send separate application form for each programme. One cannot apply for more than two PG Programmes. The medium of instruction for PG Programme at NID is English.

Upper age limit for candidates is 30 years (relaxable by 3 years for reserved categories) as on June 1, 2011.

Application Procedure

For General Category: Forms can be downloaded from NID’s website www.nid.edu/downloads and sent along with a DD of Rs 1500/- drawn on any nationalized bank in favour of ‘National Institute of Design’ payable at Ahmedabad. Forms can also be obtained from select branches of Bank of India (listed below) on payment of Rs.1,500/- towards the cost of the form plus Rs.50/- as bank charges.

Forms can also be obtained from select branches of Bank of India on payment of Rs.1500/- towards the cost of the form plus Rs.50/- as bank charges w.e.f 14th October, 2010.

For Reserved Category: Forms at concessional rates to reserved categories are available only from Admissions Office, NID, Ahmedabad. These forms can be obtained from Admissions Office directly by sending a Demand Draft drawn on any nationalized bank in favour of ‘National Institute of Design’ payable at Ahmedabad for Rs.750/-.

The applicant should also send in an attested copy of the relevant certificate from competent authority and a self addressed envelope of 9” x 12” size with Rs.40/- stamps affixed.

The envelope should be marked with ‘NID ADMISSIONS 2011’.

1. Masters degree in Arts/ Commerce with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent. Masters degree in Science/ Engineering/ Agriculture/ Environment Sciences/ International Business with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% marks may be considered for research areas consistent with the academic background and special interests.

2. B.Tech. from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) with a minimum CPI of 7.0.

Selection Process: The Institute will decide the section-wise as well as total cut-off marks which will be used for short-listing the candidates to be called for Group Discussion and Personal Interview.

GD & PI will be held in Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai.

Candidates will have to meet their own travel expenses for appearing in the GD & PI. The final selection will be made on the basis of the candidate's performance in the XAT as well as in the Group Discussion and Personal Interview (which factors in the past academic record and relevant work experience).
