Graphics as study discipline

Also called Graphic Arts. The visual appearances on a given surface for example wall, canvas, stone, paper or computer screen to inform, illustrate, entertain or brand is called Graphics. Some of the examples of Graphics are drawings, Line Art, symbols, numbers, geometric design, diagrams, typography, maps, engineering drawing, or a google map etc. In general, graphic is produced from illustration, color and text. Graphic design may comprises conscious assortment, formation, or understanding of typography alone, as in a brochure, flier, poster, web site, or book without any other element.

Graphics serves the purpose of effective communication associated with other cultural elements. Graphics can be in any form functional or artistic. Artistic graphic can be a recorded version for example a photograph or an interpretation by a scientist to depict something. A person who studies Graphic Design is called Graphic designer; he / she work with drawn, painted, photographed, or computer-generated images and sometimes also develop the letterforms which makes different type faces found in movie credits and TV ads; in books, magazines, and menus; and even on computer screens.

Graphic design is a creative procedure that coalesces art and technology to communicate ideas. Graphic designers work with different sorts of communication tools so as to pass a message from a client to a particular group of audience. Graphic design is a part of our daily life; from a gum wrapper to huge billboards and messages printed in T-shirts or jeans graphic design tells, influences, arranges, inspires, positions, identifies, and attracts attention and provides pleasure. The main tools of graphic are image and typography. Graphic can be of any type, viz; Image – Based Design, Type – Based design, Image and Type based design, symbol, logos, and logotypes.

In educational settings Graphic is taught from school. Various diplomas and part time certificate courses are also offered in Graphics. Universities offer courses in Graphics both full time and part time and awards degrees like Bachelor’s Master’s Doctorate etc. The services of a Graphic designer are required in both government and private agencies.
