The Indian School of Mines (ISM) was established during British Rule in 1926 in the lines of Royal School of Mines – London. The institute is located in the mineral rich region of India, now called Jharkhand. In the Edu-Rand Rankings 2015, ISM Dhanbad ranked as 7th Best Engineering Colleges in India
The ISM Dhanbad conducts Under Graduate, Post Graduate and Research Programs through 18 Departments in varied disciplines of minerals and ore engineering as well as many other engineering, applied sciences and humanities disciplines. The institute was proposed to given status of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) during India Budget 2012 speech of Finance Minister, Arun Jaitely.
