BHU – PMT -2009 Screening Test

(MBBS / BDS / BAMS / B.Pharm / B.Pharm (Ay.) courses)

It is hereby informed that in view of Parliamentary elections and clash of dates of other Medical Entrance Examinations, the BHU PMT-2009 Screening Test has again been postponed and will now be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 between 9.30 AM and 12.30 PM at Varanasi, Delhi, Kolkata and Hyderabad Centres.

Further, PMT-2009 Main Test for MBBS course will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 between 9.30 AM and 12.30 PM at Varanasi Centre only instead of Sunday June 28th 2009 as reported earlier.

Please also note that distribution of seats in B.Pharm., Institute of Technology, selected through BHU PMT—2009 Screening Test has been revised and would be as follows

Eligibility: The test shall be open to candidates who have passed the Matriculation or equivalent examination in Mathematics, Science (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) and English, provided that a candidate who has appeared for the qualifying examination but whose result has not been declared shall be admitted provisionally to the Joint Entrance Test but his/her candidature shall be cancelled if he/she fails to qualify in the examination or fails to produce the proof of his having qualified at the time of counselling. Such candidates will have no claim, whatsoever, with regard to the admission to any course.

Application procedure: The JET Prospectus-cum-Application Form can be obtained from the office of the Board or designated branches of Punjab National Bank or from the designated institutions as mentioned by making a payment of Rs. 250/- at the counter.

Candidates may obtain JET-Prospectus by post also by sending a demand draft of Rs. 300/- in favour of the "Secretary, Punjab State Board of Technical Education and Industrial Training" payable at "Chandigarh", which should preferably reach the office of the Board atleast ten days before the last date of receipt of application form.

The candidate must write his/her name, father's or mother's name and address on the reverse of the bank draft. However, the Board shall not be responsible for any postal delay.

Any request made to the Bank/Institutions for supply of Prospectus by post shall not be entertained.

In case copies of JET-Prospectus are sold out before the last date at any of the places listed then the same may be obtained from the office of the Board at Chandigarh.

Submission Of Application Form

The JET Application Form(also referred to as ICR Form) complete in all respects should be enclosed in the envelop supplied with the prospectus and deposited at a designated Bank branch

The examination fee should be paid in cash @ Rs. 520/- (for General and other categories) and Rs. 260/- (for SC/ST) along with the application form in one of the bank branches of Punjab National Bank. In case the application form is sent by post/courier, it should be accompanied by Demand Draft of Rs. Rs. 520/- (for General and other categories) and Rs. 260/- (for SC/ST) drawn in the favour of "Secretary, Punjab State Board of Technical Education & Industrial Training" payable at "Chandigarh". However, candidates are advised to submit the forms at the bank branches and get the required acknowledgement.

The candidates are advised to retain with them the photocopies of the filled Application Forms/Bank draft/ postal receipt/acknowledgement receipt.

Eligibility criteria for applying: A person who graduated within the last two years with a BTech/ BE/ MTech/ MS/ ME in CS/IT/ECE/EE with a good academic record (at least a CGPA of 7.5 or equivalent in IITs/NITs, or in the top 10% in his/her CS/IT/ECE/EE batch from other institutions). Pre-Doctoral and Ph. D. Programme – 2009

The research activity in the Institute centers around the areas of theoretical and experimental condensed matter physics, nuclear physics and high energy physics.

The Predoctoral programme is designed to train fresh M.Sc. students for conducting research activities.
Eligibility: The Institute invites application for the Pre-doctoral Programme from Indian nationals having the following qualifications : –

(A) M.Sc. Physics with minimum 55% marks (in aggregate).

(B) GATE qualifiers with minimum score of 95 percentile having current validity or, CSIR / UGC- NET qualifiers (for research fellowship) within last one year.

Candidates who have qualified JEST-2009 with a minimum score of 95 Percentile need not send any application. They will be contacted directly by the Institute. If a candidate has scored less than 95 percentile in JEST-2009 but satisfies any of the criteria for GATE/NET as above, he/she should also send the application.

Candidates appearing for the final semester/ year of M.Sc., who have already qualified in GATE or CSIR/UGC-NET can also apply. They should submit the relevant proof before joining the pre-doctoral programme. In case of non-availability of the M.Sc. results at the time of joining, the admission will be treated as provisional.

Admission Procedure : All eligible candidates, whether through JEST-2009 or through application against this advertisement, will have to appear for a short written test in the morning of 18 June 2009. Result of written test will be published the same day and short-listed candidates will have to appear for interview on 18-19 June, 2009. Final merit list will be based on the scores of both the written test and the interview.

During the pre-doctoral and the first year of the Ph.D. programme, students are placed in Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) grade and are paid Rs. 12,000/- p.m. fellowship.

On completion of the Pre-doctoral programme, the students are eligible to join for research under the supervision of faculty members of the Institute, leading to the Ph.D. degree awarded by Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI), a deemed-to-be university within the Department of Atomic Energy.
