Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)

Appreciation Programme on Sustainability Science-April, 2010

Objectives
• The core objective of this programme is to build the capacity of policy makers, administrators, scientists and educators as well as the general public in the science and art of environmentally, economically and socially sustainable development.
• The course will help the participants to develop an Agenda 21 Plan of Action for their respective village/town/city
• To help those involved in agriculture to launch an era of ever-green revolution which can help to enhance productivity in perpetuity without ecological harm.

Eligibility Criteria: The programme is open to the candidates who are Graduate in any discipline or its equivalent from any recognized University. The preference will be given to the post graduate scholars, scientists and policy makers working in the areas of agriculture, rural development, environmental science and sustainable development.

Eligibility Criteria

For Ph.D. Programmes

Faculty of Applied Sciences:

(a) M Sc or M Phil in a relevant field or equivalent
(b) Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent

Faculty of Policy and Planning

(a) M Sc/MA/M Phil in a relevant field or equivalent.
(b) Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent.

Full time students who possess a B Tech degree in the relevant field or equivalent are required to have a valid GATE score and a minimum CGPA of 7.5 on a 10 point scale or 70% marks.

For M.Sc. Programme:
A Bachelor’s degree in Science/ Engineering/ Commerce/ Economics/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Geography with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 6.75 on a 10 point scale or equivalent as determined by the TERI University, wherever letter grades are awarded, or 60% marks in aggregate (of all the years/ semesters of the qualifying examinations), wherever marks are awarded. For candidates with a bachelor’s degree in Economics/Commerce/Geography, a relaxation of 5% or 0.75 CGPA could be allowed.

For M Sc (Geoinformatics)
A Bachelor’s degree in Science/Engineering/Statistics/ Geography with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 6.75 on a 10 point scale or equivalent as determined by the TERI University, wherever letter grades are awarded, or 60% marks in aggregate (of all the years/ semesters of the qualifying examinations), wherever marks are awarded.

For candidates with a bachelor’s degree in Geography, a relaxation of 5% or 0.75 CGPA could be allowed.
M Sc (Plant Biotechnology)

For the Masters programme in Plant Biotechnology the minimum eligibility is a Bachelor’s degree in the Sciences, preferably the Life Sciences, with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate (of all the years/ semesters of the qualifying examinations), wherever marks are awarded, or a minimum cumulative grade point average of 6.75 on a 10 point scale.

M B A (Infrastructure)
Stream I: Bachelor’s degree with mathematics as a subject till Class XII.
Stream II: Graduates with a minimum of two years experience in any of the following sectors namely government, regulatory bodies, industry, research/academic institutions, donor/consultant organizations.
M B A (Business Sustainability): Bachelor’s degree with Mathematics and English as compulsory course till 10+2 or equivalent.

M A (Public Policy & Sustainable Development)
Graduates with a minimum experience of five years in any of the following sectors namely government, regulatory bodies, industry, research/academic institutions, and donor/consultant organizations.

Master’s in Sustainable Development Projects
To enter the programme, students must meet the following prerequisites.
An undergraduate degree (Honours or equivalent) in a related fi eld of study (environmental sciences, engineering, economics, social sciences, health sciences and law) from an internationally recognized institution, of 6.75 on a 10 point scale or equivalent as determined by TERI University, wherever letter grades are awarded, or 60% marks in aggregate (of all the years/semesters of the qualifying examinations), wherever marks are awarded Appropriate English language proficiency.

M Tech (Renewable Energy Engineering and Management)
A Bachelor’s degree in any branch of engineering or M Sc in Physics with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 6.75 on a 10 point scale or equivalent as determined by TERI University, wherever letter grades are awarded, or 60% marks in aggregate (of all the years/ semesters of the qualifying examinations), wherever marks are awarded. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) awards fellowships every year for pursuing M Tech programs, based on a written test. Candidates who get this fellowship will also be eligible.

M Sc (Economics) – with a specialization in Environmental & Resource Economics
3-year Bachelor’s degree in Economics (50%) or Mathematics/ Physics/ Engineering (60%) with Mathematics and English as compulsory courses till 10+2 or equivalent.

PG Diploma by distance learning (Renewable Energy programme)
A degree in Mathematics/Science/Technology or equivalent with minimum cumulative grade point average of 6.0 on a 10 point scale or equivalent as determined by TERI University, wherever letter grades are awarded, or 55% marks in aggregate (of all years/semesters of the qualifying examinations) wherever marks are awarded.

Application Procedure
It is recommended that applications be made online. Applications can be made on-line at www.teriuniversity.ac.in .

The requisite payment of Rs 1250/- can be made through credit card/ direct bank debit through a secure gateway. Payment can also be done by sending a demand draft subsequent to on-line registration.
On-line registrations will be open till 5.00 p.m. on 5 May 2009.

Alternatively, the application forms and the information brochure can be obtained from various centres across India (addresses are available on the University website) or from Registrar, TERI University, 10, Institutional Area, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi – 110 070, on cash payment of Rs 1450/- if collected personally or through post by sending a Demand Draft of Rs 1500/- drawn in favour of ‘Registrar, TERI University’ payable at New Delhi.

The completed application forms must reach the Registrar by 5.00 p.m. on 14 April 2009.
Application forms may also be downloaded from the University’s web site www.teriuniversity.ac.in , in which case a DD of Rs 1450/- must accompany the completed form. For M Sc programmes Climate Science and Policy, Natural Resources Management, Environmental Studies, Water Resources Management, Geoinformatics, Economics and Plant Biotechnology candidates are permitted to apply for one or more of the programmes. In this case, candidates will be required to indicate their order of preference in the application form.

Eligibility Criteria: All the students enrolled with School of Open Learning and Non-Collegiate Women's Education Board, University of Delhi are eligible to apply for these courses. The students enrolled with the colleges and Departments, affiliated to University of Delhi can also apply for these courses subject to availability of seats.

Application Procedure: Brochure along with the application form is available from Campus of Open Learning C-2, Keshav Puram, Delhi-110035 from 22nd February, 2010 to 15 March, 2010, between 10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. on all working days.
