About Russia

Russia or Russian Federation is the largest nations in the world covering 6,612,100 sq mi which is larger than one eight of total inhibited land area on earth. It’s a sovereign state. According to 2015 estimates Russian populations stands tall at 144 million. Bordering countries to Russia are Norway, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland (both with Kaliningrad Oblast), Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, China, Mongolia, and South Korea. Climate in Russia is humid continental and prevalent in all parts of the country other than the tundra regions and the extreme southeast. Russia enjoys mainly two weathers i.e. winters and summers. The autumn and springs are normally the transition between from very low and from very high temperatures. Coldest month is January. Mercury rose to highest mark in July. In extreme winters temperature can dip as low as -96 degree Fahrenheit or beyond. In hottest summers temperature can go above 45 degree Celsius. All major Russian cities have well developed public transport like bus, trolleybus and tram.  Moscow Metro and Saint Petersburg Metro are busiest Metro systems in the world.

Moscow State University and Saint Petersburg State University are the largest and the oldest institutes of higher education in Russia. In 2000s, government brought “federal universities” plan. Under this either institutes were merged together or made up new. The new institutions are Southern Federal University, Siberian Federal University, Kazan Volga Federal University, North-Eastern Federal University, and Far Eastern Federal University.

Visa Requirements To Study In Russia 


International Students require applying for a Visa to study in Russia. The common minimum requirements to apply for a Russian student visa are:

  • Accepted by a college / university in Russia to pursue a Full Time Course.
  • Possess required eligibility certificates to take admission in one such.
  • Hold a valid Passport for the intended period of stay.
  • Proof of income or sufficient means to support studies in Russia
  • Health Certificate issued by a competent hospital from the home country.
  • Candidates holding above documents may apply for Visa with nearest Foreign Mission Office of Russia in the home country.
