Spanish is the most widely spoken Romance language. It is
official language of Spain More than 400 million people in the world speak
Spanish. Spanish is also accepted as official language in following countries-
Central America and South America, including Argentina, Bolivia, Chile,
Columbia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Equatorial Guinea, Guatemala,
Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela;
Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico.
The United Nations and the
European Union uses Spanish as one of the official language. The African
nations of Western Sahara use Spanish, as one of the official languages, the
other language in use is Arabic. Spanish is widely spoken in United States. It
is the official language of New Mexico State.
Spanish has two major dialects; i.e. Andalusian and
Castilian. These dialects by and large fluctuate in pronunciation of the letter
arrangements ce, ze, and za. Speakers of the Andalusian dialect speak these
arrangements with an s sound, while Castilian speakers speak them with a th
sound. Spanish has resemblance with Portuguese in vocabulary and grammar. It
has greater influence of Arabic too as the region was under Islamic reign quite
for large time. During Andalusian period
Spanish language was derived from Vulgar Latin. It has influences from Germanic
language and Basque and Celtiberian.
In 1492, Elio Antonio de Nebrija in Salamanca, in Spain
wrote Gramática de la Lengua Castellana, the first Latin to Spanish grammar. In
16th century and afterward the Spanish language reached to America
and the Spanish East Indies as a result of colonization. In 20th
century the Spanish language was brought to United State, Western Sahara and
Equatorial Guinea.
