IIT Madras to held Imaging Cinema 2012

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) shall conduct ‘Imaging Cinema 2012’ by the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT Madras, between June 1-10, 2012.
If movies interests you this is the right opportunity to learn film making. It is to be noted that film making is vast industry in India, what we see today is just the tip of the pin, movies are going to be evolve in coming days and sure there shall be huge rising need to write and direct films and screen plays in coming days.

The ten-day programme, for which an IIT Madras certification of participation will be awarded, will be handled by a high-profile resource team that includes Atul Tiwari (Screenwriter of Mission Kashmir and Dashavataram),  K Hariharan (Director, LV Prasad Institute of Film and Television, Chennai), Rohan Sippy (Director of Dum Maro Dum and Bluffmaster), Shridhar Raghavan (Screenwriter of Khakee, Dum Maro Dum, and Apaharan), Sriram Raghavan (Director of Agent Vinod, Johnny Gaddar, and Ek Haseena Thi), Anurag Kashyap (Dev D, No Smoking, Gulaal) and Patricia Gruben (Director, Praxis Screenwriting Programme, Simon Fraser University, Vancouver).

The Imaging Cinema 2012 will be delivered in four sessions somewhat like follows-


Imaging Cinema 2012 1st Session- Basic Understanding of Films
Imaging Cinema 2012 2nd Session - mechanics of filmmaking including camera handling, lighting, sound, sets, editing, special effects etc.
Imaging Cinema 2012 3rd Session- understanding the film-script construction.
Imaging Cinema 2012 4th Session Film shooting of 5 minutes duration.

On the last day the films made by students shall be given awards.

How to apply


The programme fee is Rs 10,000 for professionals, however for those who took part in similar program conducted by IIT Madars in 2009 the fee is Rs 9,000 and 2010 is Rs 8, 000. This fee is 250 USD for NRIs and international students/professionals. A video camera is not a must for participation. Cell phone cameras will be sufficient to take part in this program.

The last date to buy application forms is April 30, 2012.  Filled-in forms must be mailed to draysha@iitm.ac.in before May 2, 2012.

The course is open to all professionals and students, not just to students of cinema.

Accommodation is available at IIT Madars campus on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Rent for hostel rooms is Rs 150 for a day.
