Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana" (KVPY) - Fellowship - 2008 for Medicine & Engineering streams

Effective from 01.04.2009

Rs. 4000/- to 7000/- per month plus Contingency Grant


ELIGIBILITY

Basic Sciences

Stream SA: Students joining in the XI Standard (Science Subjects) during the academic year 2008-2009 and having secured a minimum of 75% (65% for SC/ST) marks in aggregate in Mathematics and Science in the X Standard Board Examination.

Stream SB: Students pursuing First Year B.Sc. degree / M.Sc. Integrated (UG Programme) in Basic Sciences during the academic year 2008-2009 and having secured a minimum of 60% (50% for SC/ST) marks in aggregate in Mathematics and Science subjects in the XII Standard Board Examination.

Stream SB+2: “Students of Class 12 (+2) of the academic year 2008 - 2009 who are aspiring to join ISSER for Integrated M. S programme for the session August 2008 may also take the KVPY Aptitude Test for the SB Stream provided they secure a minimum of 75% marks (65% for SC/ST) aggregate in Mathematics and Science subjects in X Standard Board Examination

Stream SP(Basic Sciences): Students pursuing XI, XII standard, First or Second year of any UG programme in Basic Sciences during the academic year 2008 – 2009 and having secured a minimum of 60% (50% for SC/ST) marks aggregate in X Standard and XII Standard Board examination may apply by completing a science based research project. The report of the project, chosen and executed by the applicant and supervised by a teacher/professional in the relevant field, to be submitted along with the application. Based on the project submitted and scrutiny of application forms, short listed candidates will be called for an interview, which is the final stage of the selection procedure. The interview will be conducted at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore during the month of December 2008 or first week of January 2009. Application without the project report will not be considered

SP(Engineering)

Stream SP (Engineering): Students joining First / Second year B.E./B.Tech./B.Arch during the academic year 2008 - 2009 and having secured a minimum of 60% (50% for SC/ST) marks aggregate in X and XII Standard Board Examinations. Students joining Second year B.E./ B.Tech./B.Arch must have passed with a minimum of 60% (50% for SC/ST) in the First year exam of B.E./B.Tech./B.Arch. A hard copy of the Science/Engineering based research project is required along with the application.

Note for Students applying for SP Engineering Stream

KVPY application requires the report of a project, chosen and executed by the applicant and supervised by a teacher/professional in the relevant field, to be submitted along with the application. Based on the project submitted and scrutiny of application forms, short listed candidates will be called for an interview, which is the final stage of the selection procedure. The interview will be conducted at IIT, Bombay during the month of December 2008. Application without the project report will not be considered.

Medicine

Stream SP (Medicine): Students joining First / Second Professional year of M.B.B.S. programme during the academic year 2008 - 2009. Students must have passed XII Standard Board Examination with 75% (65% for SC/ST) marks aggregate in Science subjects or passed First Professional MBBS exam with not less than 60% (50% for SC/ST) marks. A Copy of the Bio – Medical research project is required along with the application.

Note for Students applying for Medicine Stream SP (Medicine)

KVPY application requires the report of a project, chosen and executed by the applicant and supervised by a teacher/professional in the relevant field, to be submitted along with the application. Based on the project submitted and scrutiny of application forms, short listed candidates will be called for an interview, which is the final stage of the selection procedure. The interview will be conducted at ICMR, New Delhi. Application without the Bio-Medical project report will not be considered.

SELECTION PROCEDURE

Basic Sciences (SA and SB)

After scrutiny of application forms and based on the performance in the Board Examination, aall the eligible candidates from Streams SA and SB will be called for a written aptitude test (multiple choice). The test will be conducted at different centers across the country on 2nd November 2008 (First Sunday). The details of the venue of the aptitude tests will be put on KVPY web to the in October 2008. Based on the performance in the aptitude test candidates will be called for an interview which is the final stage of the selection procedure.

Sciences (SP); SP (Engineering) and SP (Medicine)

KVPY applicant is required to submit the project report, chosen and executed by the candidate exclusively for this application. The projects done jointly with other candidates are not considered for KVPY Fellowship award. Applicant’s creativity and originality should be amply reflected in the project. This project has to be supervised by a teacher/professional in the relevant field. Based on the project submitted and scrutiny of application forms, short listed candidates will be called for an interview, which is the final stage of the selection procedure. The interview will be conducted either at IISc, Bangalore or IIT-Bombay, Mumbai or ICMR, New Delhi during the month of December 2008 or first week of January 2009.

Please Note that applications without the project report will not be considered. The project should not be a routine one (such as measuring well known property of materials etc.) The supervising teacher / professional is required to provide a recommendation letter certifying the extent of the applicant’s original contribution to the project.

Request for Application Form

a. Each Stream has its own application form. Students who wish to apply for more than one Stream should submit separate applications.

b. Applicants may apply either by Hard copy or Online. (www.iisc.ernet.in/kvpy).

c. Application forms may be down loaded from the KVPY website. Those who are unable to do so, may request for a Hard Copy.

d. Hard copy of the application form can be obtained from KVPY on request by sending a processing fee of Rs. 200/- (Rs. 100/- for SC/ST) by means of remitting Rs. 200 (Rs. 100/- for SC/ST) “to any core banking branches of STATE BANK OF INDIA, payable at all branches in India. Paid into the credit of Administrative Executive, KVPY A/c. No. 10270577392” and send the “pay-in-slip” along with the request, clearly indicating the stream (i.e.SA, SB, SP etc.) on the envelope

e. The SC/ST – candidates should provide a copy of the caste certificate issued by a competent authority in the prescribed proforma.

f. The completed application form along with the

1. Caste certificate in the case of SC/ST candidate

2. Project report in the case of SP/Basic Sciences/ Engineering/ Medicine

3. copy of the marks statement of the qualifying examination(s), in the case of SP (Engineering), SP(Medicine).

4. Processing fee of Rs. 200/- (Rs. 100/- for SC/ST) should reach KVPY on or before 12.9.08 (Friday).

g. KVPY will not be responsible for postal delays in receiving completed application.

Eligibility: M.Sc. (Geospatial Science & Technology) - Candidate sponsored by Central/ State Govt. Organizations or Public/Private Institution must be a Science graduate having mathematics as a subject at least at Plus2/ lntermediate/Higher Secondary level and minimum two years experience in Surveying/Mapping GIS/RS. B.Sc. (P.E., H.E. & Sports) Part-I:

* Candidate seeking admission to B.Sc. Eligibility: NATIONALITY:

The applicant for admission should be a Resident Indian National and should have studied regular, full time and formal education in schools / colleges located in India in the preceding two / three years.

UG / Five-Year Integrated Programmes

AGE LIMIT:

Candidates whose date of birth falls on or after 1st July 1989 are eligible to apply. The date of birth as recorded in the High School / SSC/ Xth certificate will be considered authentic. Candidates should produce this certificate in original as a proof of their age at the time of interview, failing which they will be disqualified.

Candidates should have secured an aggregate of 60% and above in their +2 examination to be eligible to apply.

The aggregate marks obtained in the subjects in +2 (or its equivalent) put together should be 50% for the following categories:

* Candidates belonging to SC/ST
* Candidates hailing from Jammu & Kashmir and the North Eastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura.

B.Sc. Computer Science / BCA: A pass in Higher Secondary Examination conducted by the State / Central Board of Secondary Education or its equivalent examination with Mathematics as one of the subjects with a minimum of 60% overall aggregate.

B.Com. (Computer Applications): A pass in Higher Secondary Examination conducted by the State / Central Board of Secondary Education or its equivalent examination with a minimum of 60% overall aggregate. Students must have studied Commerce / Accountancy as one of the subjects.

M.S. Software Engineering - (5 year Integrated Programme): A pass in Higher Secondary Examination conducted by the state / Central Board of Secondary Education or its equivalent examination with a minimum of 60% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM).

MBA - (5 year integrated programme): A pass in Higher Secondary Examination conducted by the State / Central Board of Secondary Education or its equivalent examination with a minimum of 60% overall aggregate.

M.Sc. Biotechnology - (5 year Integrated Programme): A pass in Higher Secondary Examination conducted by the State / Central Board of Secondary Education or its equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Botany / Zoology or Biology as subjects with a minimum of 60% overall aggregate.

M.Sc. PROGRAMMES:

* Candidates should have graduated with a full-time degree from any recognized University with a minimum of 50% marks.

* Candidates appearing for their final degree exam / final semester exam in the current year are also eligible to apply.

* Candidates awaiting the final semester or final year exam results can also apply, provided they will complete their final year exams before the date of interview and would submit their final year mark sheet on or before the 15th August 2008; failing which the candidate’s admission to the programme would be cancelled and fees paid shall be forfeited.

M.Sc. Applied Microbiology / Biotechnology / Biomedical Genetics: B.Sc. degree from a recognized university in any branch of Biological Science that includes Botany / Zoology, Microbiology / Biochemistry / Biotechnology / Nutrition (or) Home Science / Agricultural Science / Medicine.

M.Sc. Chemistry (with specialization in Analytical or Inorganic or Organic Chemistry): B.Sc. degree in either Chemistry or Applied Chemistry or Applied Science from any recognized university with Physics and Mathematics (or) Biology as ancillary subjects.

M.Sc. Electronics: B.Sc. degree from any recognized university with Physics / Applied Sciences/ Electronics (or) BES.

M.Sc. Computer Science: Bachelor’s degree from any recognized university in Computer Science / Computer Applications.

M.Sc. Pharmaceutical Chemistry: B.Sc. degree from any recognized University with Chemistry or Biochemistry/Botany/Zoology / Biotechnology / Microbiology / Life Sciences with Chemistry as one of the subjects or B.Pharm.


Application procedure: The VIT Main Brochure and the Information Brochure for Undergraduate and M.Sc. programmes, along with the necessary enclosures which include the Application Form and a printed self-addressed envelope, can be obtained in person from VIT University at Vellore or from the Chennai Administrative Office, New No.6, (Old No. W-73), Second Street (Opposite Towers Club), Anna Nagar, Chennai-600 040 (Phone: 044-42016555 / 65480555, Fax: 044-26222555), by handing over a Demand Draft drawn in favour of “VIT University” payable at Vellore.

Candidates can also obtain the set of Brochures with the Application Form and printed self-addressed envelope alternatively through Post from VIT University by sending a Demand Draft in favour of “VIT University”, payable at Vellore accompanied by a covering letter addressed to “ADMISSIONS OFFICER”, VIT University, Vellore-632014, requesting for the application form of the particular programme (Refer section – 2), indicating your complete postal address. On receipt of the DD, the application form with the enclosures will be sent by post. The postal charges will be borne by the University. Candidates are advised to write their name and address on the reverse of the DD.

Eligibility: M.A. (History of Art) : A Graduate Degree in any discipline from a recognized University.
Desirable - Background in Social Sciences, Liberal Arts or Fine Arts

M.A. (Conservation) : A Graduate Degree in any of the following subjects - Chemistry/Physics/ Geology / Botany/Zoology/ Computer Science/Fine Arts/History/History of Art/Architecture/ Archaeology/Museology/Designing or Diploma recognized as equivalent to graduate degree in any of these fields.

M.A. (Museology) : B.A./B.Sc. (Honours) or BA./B.Sc/ B.F.A. (3 years) in any discipline under Humanities and Social Sciences/ Science.
Desirable - Background/PG Diploma in subjects related to History of Art and Museum Studies.

Ph.D. (History of Art) : Any person holding a Master's Degree in History of Art from this Institute or Master Degree or its equivalent from a recognized University / deemed University in History of Art/History/Archaeology/ Anthropology/ Aesthetics, may apply for admission.

Ph.D. (Conservation) : Any person holding a Master's Degree in Conservation from this Institute or Master Degree in Chemistry/ Physics/ Life Sciences/Museology/Architecture or its equivalent of a recognized University or a deemed University, may apply for admission.

Ph.D. (Museology): Any person holding a Master's Degree in Museology from this Institute or Master Degree in Museology/ History/Ancient Indian History & Archaeology or its equivalent of a recognized University or a Deemed University, may apply for admission.

Desirable Qualifications for both M .A. & Ph.D. courses: Knowledge of one classical/foreign language such as Sanskrit, Persian, Arabic, Greek, Latin, German, French, Italian, etc.


Application procedure: The Information Brochure can be obtained from the office of the Institute on payment of Rs. 200/- (Rupees two hundred only) in cash or Rs. 250/-in the form of crossed Demand Draft payable to NMIHACM on any Nationalized Bank in New Delhi, if needed by post.
