Admission Notice for Short-Term Courses, 2008

Applications on prescribed forms are invited for admissions to three short-term courses of five months duration each spreading over 20 lectures:

1) INDIA: ART & CULTURE - (75 seats)
Classes on every Thursday 10.30a.m. to 12.30 p.m.

2) ART APPRECIATION - (75 seats)
Classes on every Thursday 05.30 p.m. to 07.30 p.m.

3) BHARTIYA KALANIDHI (Hindi medium) - 75 seats)
Classes on every Tuesday 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.

Forms with details may be obtained from the office of the institute on payment of Rs. 20/- in cash or Rs. 50/- through Demand Draft payable to NMIHACM at New Delhi on any nationalized bank, if required by post.

Filled in applications affixing passport size photograph and enclosing a statement of purpose of upto 250 words as to what will the above course help you to achieve be sent to Dr. P.K. Sharma, Assistant Registrar within one month from the date of this advertisement.




No formal qualification other than age (not less than 19 years) has been prescribed for these courses. The admission will be made on the basis of information given in the application form (please attach photocopies where necessary) and the statement of purpose. Candidates may also be required to appear for an interview for which date/time will be intimated separately. The fee for each course is Rs. 2,000/- only.

M.A. (History of Art)
M.A. (Conservation)
M.A. (Museology)

Ph.D. (History of Art)
Ph.D. (Conservation)
Ph.D. (Museology)


Eligibility: M.A. (History of Art) : A Graduate Degree in any discipline from a recognized University.
Desirable - Background in Social Sciences, Liberal Arts or Fine Arts

M.A. (Conservation) : A Graduate Degree in any of the following subjects - Chemistry/Physics/ Geology / Botany/Zoology/ Computer Science/Fine Arts/History/History of Art/Architecture/ Archaeology/Museology/Designing or Diploma recognized as equivalent to graduate degree in any of these fields.

M.A. (Museology) : B.A./B.Sc. (Honours) or BA./B.Sc/ B.F.A. (3 years) in any discipline under Humanities and Social Sciences/ Science.
Desirable - Background/PG Diploma in subjects related to History of Art and Museum Studies.

Ph.D. (History of Art) : Any person holding a Master's Degree in History of Art from this Institute or Master Degree or its equivalent from a recognized University / deemed University in History of Art/History/Archaeology/ Anthropology/ Aesthetics, may apply for admission.

Ph.D. (Conservation) : Any person holding a Master's Degree in Conservation from this Institute or Master Degree in Chemistry/ Physics/ Life Sciences/Museology/Architecture or its equivalent of a recognized University or a deemed University, may apply for admission.

Ph.D. (Museology): Any person holding a Master's Degree in Museology from this Institute or Master Degree in Museology/ History/Ancient Indian History & Archaeology or its equivalent of a recognized University or a Deemed University, may apply for admission.

Desirable Qualifications for both M .A. & Ph.D. courses: Knowledge of one classical/foreign language such as Sanskrit, Persian, Arabic, Greek, Latin, German, French, Italian, etc.


Application procedure: The Information Brochure can be obtained from the office of the Institute on payment of Rs. 200/- (Rupees two hundred only) in cash or Rs. 250/-in the form of crossed Demand Draft payable to NMIHACM on any Nationalized Bank in New Delhi, if needed by post. The application on the prescribed form (annexed in the Information Brochure), duly completed & supported by required copies of the certificates, should reach to the Assistant Registrar (Academic) within one month from the date of publication of this advertisement in newspapers.

Note : i) Good academic record with 50% & above marks at Graduate level is essential for admission to M.A. courses and 55% & above marks at Post-graduate level for admission to Ph.D. courses. ii) Candidates seeking admission to M.A. courses, will have to pass a written test followed by interview. iii) For admission to Ph.D. courses, in-service personnel working with Central Government/State Government/Autonomous organization/ Universities funded by Central or State Government/NGOs with at least 5 years regular service, having the above required qualification, will also be eligible to apply and will be given preference.
