GATE 2013 is offered in two versions GATE 2013 Computer Based Test / CBT and GATE 2013 Paper Based Test / PBT

GATE 2013 Online Exam Schedule

Date - 20 January 2013  (Sunday); Time - 09:00 hrs–12:00 hrs: Exam for following papers will be held:

  • Architecture and Planning - AR
  • Civil Engineering - CE
  • Geology and Geophysics - GG
  • Mathematics     MA
  • Metallurgical Engineering - MT
  • Physics - PH

  • Computer Science and Information Technology - CS
  • Mechanical Engineering - ME
  • Production and Industrial Engineering - PI

Date - 10 February 2013  (Sunday); Time - 14:00 hrs–17:00 hrs: Exam for following papers will be held:
  • Electronics and Communication Engineering - EC
  • Electrical Engineering - EE
  • Instrumentation Engineering - IN

Note- Letters against a subject represent GATE 2013 Subject Code e.g Food Technology - M; M is subject code

Important about GATE 2013 Examination / GATE 2013 Scholarship Test


All the papers will contain few questions that test the General Aptitude (Language and Analytical Skills), apart from the core subject of the paper.

XE Paper

A candidate appearing in the XE paper has to answer the following

    Section A – Engineering Mathematics (compulsory)
    GA – General Aptitude (compulsory)
    Any two of XE sections B to G


XL Paper

A candidate appearing in the XL paper has to answer the following

    Section H – Chemistry (compulsory)
    GA – General Aptitude (compulsory)
    Any two of XL sections I to M

GATE 2013 Application Fees

Good news for female candidates, there is no application fee applicable for women candidate applying for GATE 2013.

GATE 2013 Application Fee for General/OBC-NC (Male Applicants)     is Rs 1200/-
GATE 2013 Application Fee for SC / ST / PD* (Male Applicants) is Rs 600/-
GATE 2013 Application Fee for Female Applicants is Rs 0 (Exempted)

GATE 2013 Application Fee includes application form fee, price of information brochure and GATE 2013 examination fees.

GATE 2013 Eligibility Criteria

GATE 2013 is administered by IIT Bombay for Admission into IITs, IISc Bangalore and other GATE Score accepting institutions. Who are eligible to write GATE 2013? Here is a sum up of GATE 2013 eligibility criteria.

B.E / B.Tech / B.Arch i.e Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology/Architecture (4 years 
after 10+2/Post B.Sc./Post-Diploma)


M.Sc / MA / MCA i.e Master’s degree in any branch of Science / Mathematics / Statistics / 
Computer Applications or equivalent

Int. M.E / M.Tech or DD i.e Integrated Master’s degree programs or Dual Degree programs in 
Engineering / Technology (Five year programme)


Int. ME / M.Tech i.e Post-BSc Integrated Master’s degree programs in Engineering / Technology (Four year programme)


Professional Society Examinations (equivalent to B.E/B.Tech/B.Arch) i.e B.E/B.Tech equivalent examinations, of Professional Societies, recognized by MHRD/UPSC/AICTE (e.g. AMIE by Institution of Engineers-India, AMICE by the Institute of Civil Engineers-India). Candidates who have completed Section A or equivalent of such professional courses
