Revised Procedure and Criteria for Accreditation by NBA - AICTE

National Board of Accreditation (NBA) has been established under Section 10 (u) of the AICTE Act, 1987 by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), a statutory body of Govt. of India for proper planning, co-ordinated development and regulation of technical education in India, "to periodically conduct evaluation of technical institutions or programmes on the basis of guidelines, norms-and standards specified by it and to make recommendation to it, or to the Council, or to the Commission or to other bodies, regarding recognition or de-recognition of the institution or the programme.

The NBA has become a provisional member of the prestigious Washington Accord on June 20, 2007. The Washington Accord is an international agreement of the criteria, policies and procedures regarding the mutual acceptability of accreditation system for engineering programmes by the Member Countries. The NBA is keen to become full-fledged member of the Washington Accord in the next biennial meeting of International Engineering Alliance (IEA) scheduled in June 2009

As per the requirement for becoming a full-fledged member of the Washington Accord, NBA has revised the procedures and criteria of accreditation to bring it to international standards. The new procedures and criteria of accreditation shall be effective from January 01, 2009. The revised guidelines and format in respect of the Accreditation process for the Degree level programmes in Engg. and Technology are available on NBA website: www.nba-aicte.ernet.in

Note:

1. All the proposals received up to December 31, 2008 for Accreditation for Degree level programmes in Engineering & Technology shall be processed as per the existing procedure. Hence, the proposals received on and after January 01, 2009 shall be processed as per revised procedures and criteria of accreditation.

2. Proposals relating to Management, MCA, Pharmacy. Architecture and Town Planning, HMCT, Applied Arts and Crafts, and Diploma and Postgraduate Programmes in Engineering and Technology will be processed as per the existing procedure.
