Examination name : Humanities and Social Sciences Entrance Examination (HSEE) 2010

Eligibility: 1.Qualifying Examinations: Candidates applying for HSEE-2010 should have either completed or be appearing in 2009 in any one of the following qualifying examinations:
The final examination of the 10+2 system, conducted by any recognized Central/State Board, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi; Council for Indian School Certificate Examination, New Delhi; etc.Intermediate or two-year Pre-University Examination conducted by a recognized Board/ University.Final Examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy. General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level. High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University. Any Public School/Board/University Examination in India or in any foreign country recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system. H.S.C. Vocational Examination. Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects.

In case the relevant qualifying examination is not a public examination, the candidate must have passed at least one public (Board or Pre-University) examination at an earlier level.

2.Eligibility Criteria for Candidates:
The candidates belonging to the general category must secure a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate in their qualifying examination. Candidates belonging to SC, ST and PD categories must secure a minimum of 55% in aggregate in the qualifying examination. If any Board awards only letter grades without providing an equivalent percentage of marks on the grade sheet, the candidate should obtain a certificate from the Board specifying equivalent marks, and submit it at the time of joining. In case, such a certificate is not provided by the candidate, the decision of the HSEE Admission Committee regarding his/hereligibility shall be final.

3.Important Notes:
(i) All provisional admissions to candidates will stand cancelled, if the proof of having passed the qualifying examination, as per the eligibility criteria specified in section is not submitted to the Institute latest by September 30, 2010.

(ii) All admissions will be subject to verification of facts from the original certificates/documents of the candidates. If an applicant is found ineligible at a later date even after admission, his/her admission will be cancelled. The decision of the HSEE Admission Committee regarding theeligibility of any applicant shall be final.

4.Date of Birth:
Only those candidates, whose date of birth falls on or after October 01, 1985, are eligible for HSEE-2010. However, in the case of SC, ST and PD candidates, upper age limit is relaxed by 5 years, i.e., such candidates, who were born on or after October 01, 1980, are eligible. Only the date of birth as recorded in the High School (10th std.)/first Board/Pre-University Certificate will be taken as authentic.Candidates must produce a copy of this certificate along with the completed Application Form as a proof of their age. At the time of admission, the original certificate has to be produced failing which they will be disqualified.

5.Physical Fitness:
All qualified candidates will have to submit a Physical Fitness certificate from a Registered Medical Practitioner in the prescribed format that will be made available to them along with offer of admission letter. They will be admitted only if they are physically fit for pursuing a course of study at this Institute.

Eligibility: For admission to any of the above Integrated First Degree programmes Candidates should have passed the 12th examination of 10+2 system from a recognized Central or State board or its equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Further the candidate should have obtained a minimum of aggregate 80% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects in 12th examination, with at least 60% marks in each of the Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics subjects andshould have adequate proficiency in English. Students who are appearing for 12th examination in 2010 or who have passed 12th Examination in 2009 only are eligible to appear in the BITSAT-2010 test. Students who have passed 12th examination in 2008 or earlier are NOT eligible to appear in BITSAT-2010. Students who are presently studying in BITS at any of its campuses are not eligible to appear in BITSAT-2010 Admissions will be made purely on merit. The merit position ofthe candidate for admission will be based on the score obtained by the candidate in the BITSAT-2010. However, their eligibility for admission is subject to fulfilling the requirement of minimum marks in 12th examination, as mentioned above. Direct Admission to Board Toppers: In the past, admission process of the Institute always ensured guaranteed admission to all the students who obtained first ranks in their respective board examinations. This has given a very vital input of highly meritorious students from all over India. Continuing this tradition, the Institute will give directadmission to first rank students of all the central and state boards to the programme of their choice, irrespective of their BITSAT-2010 score. Eligibility criteria foradmission under ‘Direct admission to Board toppers’ scheme: To be eligible for admission under the 'Direct admission to Board toppers' scheme, the candidate should be the topper from the science stream having taken Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics subjects in 12th. To identify the topper, the following criteria will be adopted. a) has taken Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics subjects in 12th and b) has obtained the highest aggregate percentage of marks in 12th among all the students who have taken Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics subjects in 2010 from the Board. For the purpose of calculating the aggregate percentage, the aggregate marks should include the marks of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics subjects in addition to other subjects which are required to pass the 12th examination from the Board under consideration. Further, the Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics subject marks should be included in the aggregate, irrespective of whether the Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics subjects are identified as main/optional/elective in his marksheet(s). Applicants under the scheme should attach documentary proof in support of their claim, along with the 12th mark sheet and a letter from the Board declaringthe candidate as the topper in the specified stream. The Institute will also make efforts to get these data from the different boards on its own. In all cases, the Institute will be guided by the data provided by the concerned Board. In cases where for a particular board, the data available before the deadline is insufficient or inconclusive, theadmission committee may decide not to make any offer under the scheme for that specified Board.
Application procedure: Interested candidates should register for BITSAT 2010 by applying in the prescribed application form available at http://www.bitsadmission.com/. The printout of the filled form along with prescribed fee Rs 1000/- (Rs 500 for female candidates) be sent to theAdmission Officer, BITS Pilani, Rajasthan, PIN 333031. Application forms can also be obtained by post till 21 January 2010 by sending a crossed demand draft for Rs 1100/- (Rs 600 for female candidates) to theAdmission Officer. Demand draft be made drawn in favour of Birla Institute of Technology and Science and payable at State Bank of India (Pilani), State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur (Pilani) or UCO Bank (Pilani) or ICICI Bank (Jhunjhunu).

ENVIRO QUIZ COMPETITION 2010





In order to enhance the horizon of information on environmental issues amongst students of schools, it has been decided to organize Enviro-Quiz Competition (Hindi Medium) on 23rd January, 2010 and
Enviro-Quiz Competition (English Medium) on 24th January, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. in Golden Jubilee Hall, Panjab University, Chandigarh for which entries have been invited by the Department of Environment, Chandigarh Administration from Schools by 10.01.2010.

The competition will be open to the students of Schools, U.T., Chandigarh. Each school can send one entry consisting of three students for eachcompetition. Three winning teams Enviro-Quiz
