TANCET 2012 Notification


Anna University Chennai TamilNadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET) - 2012

Applications are invited for TANCET 2012 to be conducted by Anna University, Chennai on behalf of the Government of Tamilnadu on 31st March & 1st April 2012, from candidates who seek admission to

1. M.B.A.,
2. M.C.A. and
3. M.E.
4. M.Tech. / M.Arch. / M.Plan. Degree Programmes

for the year 2012 - 2013 offered at University Departments / University Colleges of Anna University, Government and Government Aided Engineering Colleges and Arts & Science Colleges and Self-financing Colleges (Engineering, Arts & Science Colleges including stand-alone Institutions) in Tamilnadu.

Some Universities and Self-Financing Engineering Colleges may also opt to admit the candidates on the basis of marks obtained in TANCET 2012.

Other State candidates can appear for the entrance test, but the eligibility conditions will be stipulated by the admitting authority / University.

Eligibility Criteria

1. MBA: A pass in a recognised Bachelor's degree of minimum 3 years duration and obtained atleast 50% (45% in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) at the qualifying examination in 10+2+3 years pattern (or) 10+3 years Diploma + 3 years pattern (or) B.E./ B.Tech./ B.Arch./ B.Pharm. (or) AMIE with 2 years regular full time Teaching experience / Industrial experience in the relevant field after passing all the subjects.

2. MCA: A pass in a recognised Bachelor's degree of minimum 3 years duration in 10+2+3/4 years (or) 10+3 years Diploma + 3 years pattern in any discipline with Mathematics at +2 level and obtained at least 50% (45% in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) at the qualifying examination.

3. M.E. / M.Tech. / M.Arch. / M.Plan.: Details of the common eligibility criteria are available in the “Information & Instructions Booklet" for TANCET 2012 to be issued during Spot Registration and also in the website: www.annauniv.edu/tancet2012

Note: (i)Candidates admitted through lateral entry in degree courses are not eligible except B.E./B.Tech. degree courses

(ii) Candidates with B.E./B.Tech./M.C.A./ M.Sc. degrees obtained through week-end courses and B.E./B.Tech. through distance mode are not eligible.

Those who are appearing for final year / semester examination of the above qualifying degrees in April / May 2012 can also apply for TANCET 2012.

TANCET 2012 Application Form - How To Apply

Application Form is common for all the three entrance tests.

Candidates have to submit only one application. The candidates have to pay a fee of Rs.500/- (Rs.250/- for SC/SCA / ST candidates belonging to Tamilnadu on production of a copy of Permanent Community Certificate in card format) as entrance test fee for any one of the programmes either (1) M.B.A. or (2) M.C.A. or (3) M.E./M.Tech. / M.Arch. / M.Plan.

If a candidate desires to appear for more than one programme, for every additional programme, he/ she has to pay Rs.500/- (Rs. 250/- for SC /SCA / ST candidates belonging to Tamilnadu).

Registration For The Entrance

(1) SPOT REGISTRATION: Hall Tickets will be issued to the candidates who come in person to the following Co-ordinating Centres with a copy of 10th Std. mark sheet and 12th Std. mark sheet (or 3 years Diploma Certificate) and cash or Demand Draft * (A single DD is sufficient for one or more programe) for the required amount towards entrance test fee.

Registration Through Internet

The candidates can also register through internet by logging on to www.annauniv.edu/tancet2012 .

The completed downloaded application along with the required demand draft and photocopies of certificates should reach The Secretary, TANCET, Centre for Entrance Examinations, Anna University, Chennai - 600 025 on or before 25.02.2012, by 5.30 p.m.

The hall tickets will be sent by post. 

The demand draft should be drawn in favour of ‘The Director, Entrance Examinations, Anna University,’ payable at Chennai, obtained from any Nationalized bank on or after 22.01.2012.

Indian Statistical Institute Admission to B.Sat, M.Sat, M.Math, MS(QE), MS(LIS), M.Tech. and Research Fellowship



Applications are invited for the following programmes from the candidates having qualifications as shown against each programme Stipend / fellowship as mentioned against each programme will be available to the deserving candidates.

1. 3 year B.Stat. (Hons.): Successful completion of 10+2 years of Higher Secondary Education or equivalent with Mathematics and English. Stipend Rs.3,000 per month. (Offered at Kolkata).

2. 3•year B.Math. (Hons.): Successful completion of 10+2 years of Higher Secondary Education or equivalent with Mathematics and English. Stipend Rs.3,000 per month. (Offered at Bangalore).

For the above two programmes, candidates who have been selected as Indian National Mathematical Olympiad Awardees to participate in the International Mathematics Olympiad Training Camp through test conducted by the National Board for Higher Mathematics, Department of Atomic Energy, Govt. of India, need not sit for the written test. Such candidates would be directly called for interview but are required to apply in the application form.

3. 2-year M.Stat.: 3rd year Bachelor’s degree with Statistics as major subject, or a B.Sat / B.Math. degree / a Statistician’s Diploma/ Senior Diploma from the Indian Statistical Institute. Stipend Rs.5,000 per month (Offered at Delhi and Chennai).

4. 2-year M.Math.: 3•year Bachelor’s degree or a B.E,/B.Tech. degree with Mathematics and an exceptionally strong background in Analysis and Abstract Algebra or a B.Stat./B.Math. degree from the Indian Statistical Institute. Stipend Rs.5000/- per month. (Offered at Kolkata).

5. 2-year Master of Science (MS) in Quantitative Economics: 3 year Bachelor’s degree in Economics / Mathematics / Statistics / Physics or a B.Stat, degree from the Indian Statistical Institute. Engineering graduates are also eligible.
Candidates should have knowledge of Economics and Mathematics at the B.A./B.Sc. pass level. Stipend Rs.5,000 per month (Offered at Kolkata & Delhi).

6. 2-year Master of Science (MS) in Library and Information Science: 3 year Bachelor’s degree in any discipline. Stipend Rs.5,000 per month. (Offered at Bangalore).

7. 2 year M.Tech. in Computer Science: (i) Master’s degree in Mathematics/Statistics/ Physics/ Electronic Science/ Computer Science/ Computer Applications/Information Technology or, (ii) Bachelor's degree in Engineering / Technology or any other qualification considered equivalent (such as AMIE or, GRAD-IETE or, DOEACC ‘B’ Level). Stipend Rs.8,000 per month. (Offered at Kolkata)

A candidate with a valid GATE score above a threshold (to be decided by the Selection Committee) in his/ her own subject would be directly called for interview. However, such candidates are required to apply in the prescribed application form.

8. 2 - year M.Tech. in Quality, Reliability and Operations Research: (i) Masters degree in Statistics or Masters degree in Mathematics with Probability and Statistics as major subjects or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology or equivalent or PG diploma in SQC & OR from the Indian Statistical Institute and (ii) Knowledge of Mathematics at graduate level and knowledge of Physics and Chemistry at Higher Secondary level. Stipend Rs.8,000 per month. (Offered at Kolkata).

A candidate who was asked to discontinue any of the above programmes is not eligible for readmission to the same programme.

9. 1 year Post Graduate Diploma in Statistical Methods with Applications : 3 year Bachelor’s degree with Mathematics as one of the subjects at the undergraduate level or a B.E/B.Tech. degree Stipend Rs.2,000 per month. (Offered at Tezpur).

10. Junior Research Fellowship: 

(a) Statistics: (i) A good academic record with M.Stat., M.A./M,Sc. or equivalent degree in Statistics or, (ii) outstanding mathematical maturity with B.Stat./B.Math., B.A./ B.Sc. or equivalent degree with Statistics as the main subject.

(b) Mathematics : (i) A good academic record with M.Stat., M.Math., MA./M.Sc. or equivalent degree in Mathematics or (ii) outstanding mathematical maturity with B.Stat./B.Math., B.A./ B.Sc. or equivalent degree with Mathematics as the main subject.

(c) Quantitative Economics: (i) A good academic record with M.S,(QE), M.Stat., MA./M.Sc. or equivalent degree in Statistics/ Mathematics/ Economics/Econometrics or, (ii) outstanding mathematical maturity with B.A./B.Sc. degree with Economics as the main subject. A candidate possessing a Master’s degree in any subject with Mathematics! Statistics at B.A./ B.Sc. (Pass) level is also eligible.

(d) Computer Science : A good academic record with M.E./M.Tech. or equivalent degree in Electronics / Telecommunication / Radio Physics / Computer Science / Electrical Engineering/Microwave Communications/ Information Technology/Bio- Informatics/ Biotechnology with Mathematics as a compulsory subject at the graduate level or a good academic record with M.Sc./M.C.A./ M.A. or equivalent degree in Physics / Mathematics/Applied Mathematics / Statistics / Electronic Sciences / Computer Science/ Atmospheric Science /Information Technology / Bio-infomatics / Biotechnology with Mathematics as a compulsory subject at the graduate level.

Outstanding candidates having B.E./ B.Tech. or equivalent degree in the above subjects will also be eligible. 

(e) Quality, Reliability and Operations Research: A good academic record with M.Tech./M.E / M.S./M.Phil or equivalent degree in Quality/ Reliability /Operations Research or a good academic record with M. Stat./M. Sc. / M,A. or equivalent degree in Mathematics/ Statistics /Physics with Mathematics as a compulsory subject at the graduate level. Outstanding candidates having BE./B. Tech. or equivalent degree in the above subjects will also be eligible.

(f) Physics and Applied Mathematics: A good academic record with M.Sc. in Physics/ Mathematics Statistics.

(g) Agriculture and Ecology: A good academic record with M.Sc. in Agriculture with specialization in Agronomy or M.Sc/ M.Stat or equivalent degree in Statistics or M.Sc. in Botany with specialization in Plant Physiology and Biochemistry or M. Sc. in Environmental Sciences.

(h) Sociology: A good academic record with M.A./M.Sc/M. Phil. Or equivalent degree in Development Studies / Sociology/ Economics / Agricultural Economies.

(i) Geology: A good academic record with M,A./M.Sc. in Geology / Applied Geology/ Geophysics/ Remote Sensing and GIS or other equivalent

(j) Biological Anthropology: A good academic record with M.Sc. in Anthropology with specialization in Biological/Physical Anthropology.

(k) Human Genetics: A good academic record with M.Sc. or equivalent in Biochemistry/ Biophysics/ Genetics/ Biotechnology / Molecular Biology or M.Sc./M.Stat. or equivalent degree in Statistics. Candidate with Statistics background need to apply and appear for JRF Statistics.

(l) Library and information Science: A consistently good academic record with first or high second division in M. S. (LIS) awarded by the Indian Statistical Institute or Associateship in Documentation and Information Science of the Indian Statistical Institute or NISCAIR/ INSDOC or its equivalent degree (such as Master’s degree in Library and information Science from any University) with at least 55% marks in undergraduate programme.

(m) Psychology: A good academic record with M.A./M.Sc. in Psychology/ Applied Psychology.

(n) Linguistics: A consistently good academic record with a Bachelors Degree in Linguistics / English as the Honours/ full subject and First Class or high Second Class in Master’s Degree in Linguistics (with specialization in Applied Linguistics/Language Teaching / Lexicography/ Field Linguistics/ Computational Linguistics/ Translation Studies / Discourse Study)
