Check points before you join a college

College degree comes for a price. Its tough to get a seat and pretty tougher to get a suitable seat. After going through all examination and interview process if you do not get a suitable environment environment all efforts may go waste. Before you join a college check following
1. Faculty members: You cannot go and ask directly for obvious reasons. Use a two way sword to know how much potential your would be teacher has. Meet seniors, try to mingle up. Best way is to ask a problem; stuck general conversation. For example where is library or where is that abc department. If you fail once no worry again a completely new fellow. Best students who may guide about college and faculty are college seniors.
2. Hostel: If you are supposed to live in college hostel, before you take check it out. Do not book your seat blindly. Tell the booking clerk that you want to see. Or go around hostels and stuck a conversation. If you feel good then take it. Check how many people they should accommodate in one room and what are the facilities offered.
3. Library: Prefer for a college that offer you at least two libraries one departmental and other central. Library is the best place to study and propel in academics. Here again seniors may help you. Check if they have enough of latest books and periodicals.
4. Mess: Normally mess facilities do not offer very good food. Ask your seniors what they get. And if food is not good what are alternates. Check if there is clean drinking water in the campus.
5. Sports: Look what sporting facilities are offered. You are going to live over there for 4/5 years.
7. Events: Prefer to join a colleges that organize extracurricular activities and events etc. These are important for overall personality development.
8. Medical Facility: What if you or one of your room mate got sick? What they offer? If a doctor is not available inside campus what are alternates?
9. Shop: Though this is not very important you can go out and buy daily needs for entire week. But if daily need shops are inside campus you will save lot of time and hassle.
10. Commute: Walking down from one department to other take lots of energy. Check if inside campus transport is available. Or buy a cycle.
11. Who are noted alumni of college? What they doing?
12. Is placement / internship available? How many companies visited last year. What was placement success rate?
13. Where can I go for internship? Are there many companies available in the area?
14. A coed college is better than male or female only. After college you will be part of work force.

How to go for a career in medical research in India

This is question of a 5th grader who want to become a medical researcher

Study of medicine is the job of the ordinary. If you are the one who don't want to wear many hats and living anatomy is a question to you, seek solace in medical research. Choosing a career path is pretty easy and medical colleges are fun to live. No, don't ask about courses. Dip your own shoes and know. Only thing I know is professors come to class and teach. If you are not in study mood sleep or go cafeteria. Here are 5 steps

Study life sciences for class 11th and 12th
Write NEET
Get a medical degree
Write NEET PG
Get a PG Medical Degree
Write NEET SS
Get a DM/MCh

And you are done

Here are details about NEET SS, the test to pass to get into medical research program https://www.indiaeducation.shiksha/entrance-exams/medical/neet-ss.html

Re-Take Class 12th Board

Q. I did poorly in class 12th Board Examination. Should I take one more year and retake the exam to improve my grade? With such low marks I cannot get admission to any good college. Help.

Ans. First congratulations that you cleared the class 12th board exam, perhaps soon you are going to be eligible to get a driving license.
I understand your disappointment, you are felling bad now in the company of friends. And you are facing unhappy parents too.
You are most talked topic in relatives house.
So here your popularity graph is rising but for how long, only for few days, then it will return to a normal cycle.
The pain point is admission to a good college, right? But incidentally I know only about better colleges and better colleges recruit better students.
Why?
Because better students are better learners.
And want to do better by burning out one more year for some more marks.
Here before, you decide to study same curriculum again for next year, I would say
Look after your marks of past years.
Did you fared better in previous 3 or 5 examinations?
Did you know the reasons for low grades in the current exam?
What will be your strategy to improve grades in next year? If you don't like binomial or paper was tough this year, there is no guarantee for next year that paper will come easy.
If your grades were truly high in past 3 to 5 years, then yes you can take a break and prepare better for next year.
But if your grades were similar, give a leverage of +/- 5% then do not repeat for the same class indeed chose for a college programme where you can get admission. Look for skill based courses and there are plenty.
A good college does not define your career success. It's you.
And you are awesome.
If you are Indian child I will suggest you to go and kiss your mom. Next you will know the results :-)
Look ahead plan your career and when you have a question ask me through this forum.
Tell your worries to your parents, teachers, seniors, siblings and friends. If that is not enough go and meet a professional counselor.
Good Luck.
