French Language as a study discipline

French is a Romanic language oftentimes also referred as Romance language. Mainly spoken by the people of France, French has more than 128 million speakers in approximately 54 countries of the world. French is a progeny of the Latin language of the Roman Empire, as are languages such as Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, Catalan and Romanian. Its growth was also prejudiced by the native Celtic languages of Roman Gaul and by the Germanic language of the post-Roman Frankish invaders.

French is accepted as official language in 29 countries, most of these countries are French La Francophonie i.e. the Group of French Speaking Nations. French is also accepted as official language by different agencies of United Nations and various other international agencies. And least but not last it’s the official language of the Directory of France.

According to one estimates of European Union 129 million (26% of the 497,198,740) people in 27 member states speak French, of which 65 million (12%) are native speakers and 69 million (14%) claim to speak it as a second language, which makes it the third most spoken second language in the Union, after English and German.

In Educational settings in India French is taught in the Foreign Language category. The
French language can be learnt right from the school where it is available as a study discipline. Universities and Colleges also teach French through department of foreign language. French is also available for study as part time and certificate courses through different government and private agencies.

In the bracket of foreign language category, French offers great career choice. Many wants to learn French some by choice others by career choice.
