Long time back, I think some 20 years ago, I read in newspaper opinion of Ford Motors Owner and CEO. Placement session was up in many Indian Tech and Biz Schools, don't remember content, but line was something like ...there is no shortage of human resources, but there is shortage of eligible human resources...'.
I sit in both side of the table, though very small in size over past 20 years and what I encountered is hilarious, frustrating and of course a failure of many employers and candidates both. In case of recruiters, I encountered many of those who work on numbers only, extremely strange questions and they are dumb when you answer. This phenomena I enjoy when seek work for myself.
Working alone is tough, at times I need people who can help me in doing small task. I checked social media and what I encountered is perhaps my inability to find a proper candidates. Its full of fake, no sense, no understanding of doing anything and one simple promise everyone does, tell me work, what it is, I will do it best. Often people are stuck in Chat Only Mode instead of coming to main task.
If I talk about expectations, those outdo salary of average sized CEO. On the other hand when I talk to employers, they expect Sun and Moon and when matter come to compensation, its not sufficient to pay even for you Internet Bill if you are using a decent quality Broadband.
Job market is an spectrum, when candidates come to me, I feel their helplessness and want to help but often end up feeling myself helpless.
A couple days back, a father came to me asking can you help my son in finding a Job or do you have something on offer? When a father or guardian ask, we can imagine situation, how much pain he has back in the mind. He has passed two copies of resume.
I dialed the candidate to understand what he looking, found either he can go so supply chain management or HR. A week I spotted something online and dialed the candidate, no response, and his father is still looking for a job for his son.
Someday he told me in lighter note, 3 full course meal, sleep and go biking is best job my son doing. And back in the mind, I was thinking, perhaps my was in better position than this as he was never required to ask for a job for me to someone. For whatsoever reasons, but I never know, if he has such a chance in his life to look for a job for me.
When I scanned resume of that candidate both copies was different, there was one thing in common his hobby is cooking, so came down on cooking and asked about his cooking skills, reply was next to hilarious, by that matrix then I am a Chef who can outdo any award winning Chef.
Job market is different, it test you, its not kind. In my starting days when I was learning how to ask for a job, I was in thought perhaps I am useless so no work for me. After many years I started working for an Irish Job Consultant. Reverse Engineering and Research Quality is something for that people hire me. When working for HR Firm I found job market is fake, job posters, more than 70% advertisements worldwide are fillers only. Its cruel, its that way. perhaps someone is trying to change somewhere, so candidates don't rum pillar to post in false hopes.
Reality of employment may be bitter for some and delicious for others, for some it may be a mixed response, and may be for some its neutral.
In my teens I read, definition of citizenship, where it was quoted as
A child learns his first lesson of citizenship between his mother's kiss and his father's caress.
The big question is are we a citizen?
Lines from John Keats says,
Where have we lost knowledge in information, where have we lost wisdom in information
