Indian Forest Service Examination 2014

The Indian Forest Service Examination / IFS Exam is organized by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) New Delhi for the selection of Forest Officers in various India Government Posts and Services. These services come under the purview of Ministry of Environment & Forests of Government of India. IFS Exam also sometimes referred as IFoS Exam so as to separate it from Indian Foreign Service (IFS). Graduate students from any recognized board or university are eligible to appear for IFoS Exam. A detailed eligibility criterion is given below.

The IFoS 2014 Exam is already on schedule now. Eligible candidates are now required filling Detailed Application Form (DAF) on UPSC Website.

  • The Indian Forest Services (IFoS) Examination is three stage testing.
  • UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination or CSP Test
  • UPSC Indian Forest Services Main Examination / IFoS Main Exam
  • UPSC Indian Forest Services Interview / IFoS Interview

The candidates aspiring to be Indian Forest Officers under Ministry of Environment & Forests of Government of India required appearing for UPSC CSP Test, screening type test. On the basis of performance list of candidates is prepared to apply for Indian Forest Services Main Examination, which is a subjective test. The questions in IFoS Main Examination test your knowledge in the areas of geography, environment, ecology and wildlife. The examination is rigorous one to find suitable candidates with fitting aptitude to manage above said areas in Indian Government. (Detailed Examination is given below).

The candidates who find place in the Merit List of Indian Forest Services Main Examination are invited by UPSC to appear for IFoS Interview. Final selection of Indian Forest Officers is made on the basis of achievement in main examination and personality interview. 

Who is eligible to appear for IFoS Examination?

In short, candidates chosen on the basis of CSP Test to appear for IFoS Main Examination; Following given the eligibility criteria:

(i) NATIONALITY :
A candidate must be either :-
(a) A citizen of India, or
(b) a subject of Nepal, or
(c) a subject of Bhutan, or
(d) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India.
Or
(e) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Srilanka, East African countries of
Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India. Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (b), (c), (d) and (e) shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India. 
A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary, may be admitted to the examination but the offer of appointment may be given only after the necessary eligibility certificate has been issued to him/her by the Government of India.

Age Limit: A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years. Relaxation in age limit is permissible as per government norms.

Educational Qualification: Bachelor's degree with at least one of the subjects namely Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics and Zoology or a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Forestry or in Engineering from any recognised university.

No of Attempts: General Category 6; Other Backward Class 9, SC / ST Category not limited; Physically Handicapped candidates belonging to General and OBC Category 9; to SC / ST not limited.
