Women Scientists Fellowship Scheme (WOS-B) – 2010





The Fellowship Scheme for Women Scientists for societal programmes is initiative of the Department of Science & Technology. This scheme is addressed to women scientists and technologists who have “break in their careers” due to social responsibilities but have desire to return to mainstream science and work as bench-level scientists. All those women having a burning desire to utilize their scientific acumen through active research and development projects which are aimed at meeting societal needs and aspirations are eligible. Women scientists desiring to apply for this scheme are required to develop their own research project / proposals demonstrating science and technological applications for societal benefits.

Objectives

Provide an opportunity for women scientists to re-enter into active research after a break in career, through support for S&T based R&D projects addressing the needs of people in unorganized urban or rural areas and

Provide an opportunity for S&T capacity building of women on issues relevant in societal programmes.

Project Proposals For

Research, development and adaptation of technology to improve the quality of life and provide additional opportunities for income generation in rural areas or urban slums.

Adaptation and transfer of an innovative technology developed at laboratory level to field.

Capacity building of applicant in technology areas relevant to the needs in rural areas.

Nature of Support

Support will include a scholarship grant of Rs.15,000 per month for a period of two years for candidates with Ph.D., M.Tech., MS/MD and Rs.10,000 per month for candidates having post graduate degree for a period of two years.

Grant for minor equipment, consumables, contingencies, travel and overheads will also be considered if found necessary under the work plan.

Who Can Apply

Indian nationals living in India and who are currently not employed in permanent position and who possess one of the following qualifications

Ph.D. or masters degree in science.

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering or technology, architecture, medicine or pharmacy.

Who have break in career after the last degree received for at least three years.

Whose age is below 50 years at the time of applying.

Candidates selected for award of the fellowship are not expected to register for higher degree (Ph.D., etc.) during the period of fellowship.

Candidates already having a permanent jobs or fellowship will not be considered unless they advance cogent reasons for making the change. In such cases the application should be accompanied by a letter from the Head of the Institution agreeing to relieve the candidate.

Other Requirements

The project proposal must show an active association with a field agency in regard to implementation of the project irrespective of the fact whether the candidate is attached to an educational institution or R&D institution or any other agency. A letter to that effect from field agency is required.

A certificate from the host institution, for extending infrastructural or administrative support for the project must be enclosed with the application. Similarly, a certificate from the identified field agency showing the agreement to get associated with the project is also required.

If the proposal includes clinical trials involving humans or animals necessary ethical clearance following ICMR/ CPCSEA guidelines must be submitted along with the proposal.

Duration of Fellowship

The scholarship will be given initially for duration of two years. The period may be extended to the third year in exceptional cases, if recommended by Experts during periodic reviews.

Selection Mechanism

A Committee of Experts will be involved in the selection process. The two-tier selection process will be adopted involving initial screening and subsequent individual presentation by the screened-in candidates before a group of Experts. The selected candidates will be informed by post. The list of selected candidates can also be seen on the website.

Joint Entrance Examination – 2010, Orissa





For admission to B.Tech., B.Arch., MBBS, BDS, B.Pharm., MCA and MBA courses and Lateral entry to B.Tech., B.Pharm courses in Government and Government aided private Colleges.

Date of Submission: 4th March, 2010

Eligibility: (A) For admission to First Year Bachelor programme in
Engineering/Technology : Pass or appearing in 10+2 examination of CHSE, Orissa or equivalent with Physics, Mathematics, and one from Chemistry/ Computer Science/Biology/Biotechnology or pass in 10+3 diploma course in engineering including those having less than 60% marks in aggregate from SCTE&T, Orissa or equivalent.
Architecture : (i) Pass or appearing in 10+2 or equivalent examination in 2010 from a recognized Board with Mathematics as a subject of study by securing minimum 50% marks in aggregate. OR
(ii) Pass in 10+3 diploma in any stream recognized by central/state govt. with 50% aggregate marks. OR
(iii) International baccalaureate diploma after 10 years of schooling with not less than 50% marks in aggregate and with Mathematics as compulsory subject of examination. For SC/ST candidates, the aggregate is 45% marks in the above said examination.
Pharmacy : Pass or appearing in 10+2 examination of CHSE, Orissa or equivalent with Physics and Chemistry and one from Mathematics/ Biotechnology/ Computer Science/ Biology or pass in 10+3 diploma course in Pharmacy including those having less than 60% marks in aggregate from SCTE& T Orissa or equivalent.
MBBS / BDS : Pass or appearing in 10+2 examination of CHSE, Orissa or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry and Biology with at least 50% marks in aggregate in these subjects taken together (40% for SC/ST) and with age between 17 and 25 years as on 31 .12.2010 (relaxab|e up to 3 years for SC/ST candidates).
(B) For admission to First Year Masters programme in
(i) Computer Application (MCA) : Pass or appearing in 2010 three years Bachelor's Degree examination in any discipline with pass in Mathematics at 10+2 level or in +3 level.
(ii) Business Administration (MBA) : Pass or appearing in 2010 three years Bachelor’s Degree examination in any discipline from a UGC recognized University.
(C) For admission to Second Year Engineering / Technology, Pharmacy Lateral Entry
Pass or appearing in 3 years diploma course in Engineering, Pharmacy with a minimum 60% marks in aggregate from SCTE&VT, Orissa or equivalent.
(D) For admission to Second Year Engineering/ Technology under Lateral Entry
Pass or appearing in 2010, for the Bachelors Degree examination of three years duration in Science from any University of Orissa or equivalent recognized by UGC and have passed with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate (First Division) withMathematics at +3 level.
(E) For admission to Second Year Pharmacy under Lateral Entry
Pass or appearing in 2010, for the Bachelors Degree examination of three years duration in Science from any University of Orissa or equivalent recognized by UGC and have passed with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate (First Division) with Biology at + level.
The ratio of distribution of seats under lateral entry for Diploma : B.Sc. is 80:20.
OUTSIDE STATE CANDIDATE : Outside State candidates are not eligible for admission in Govt. Colleges but they are eligible for admission to private colleges except private Medical (MBBS/BDS) Colleges.
