NTA: National Testing Agency

National Testing Agency (NTA) of India for Assessment for Admission in Higher Education, Research and Recruitment

The National Testing Agency is an arm of Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) of Government of India (GOI). The agency will conduct Assessment Tests for Admission into Engineering, Medical, Pharmacy, Architecture, Management programs and will work for excellence in research.
Starting 2019, the NTA will conduct following Assessment Tests
  • National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test for UG Medical Courses – NEET UG
  • Joint Entrance Examination – JEE
  • Central Management Aptitude Test – CMAT
  • Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test – GPAT
  • UGC National Eligibility Test – UGC NET
  • Central Teachers’ Eligibility Test - CTET
The test scores will be a measure of competence of students for admission into higher educational institutions and / or recruitment for different posts and services.

The Stephen Hawking, noted Theoretical Physicist joined Facebook today. Within no time during the time of writing this article his page has 1,151,476 likes. I think record number of likes in shortest time period, not sure. Hope Facebook will release something in future or someone else will dissect this aspect. Central Universities Common Entrance Test

Applications are invited for Central Universities Common Entrance Test – CUCET 2011 for admission to Undergraduate and 5 – year Integrated Programmes after 10+2 and Post graduate & Research Programmes in 7 Central Universities.

PEC University of Technology (PECUT)

Eligibility Criteria

For Full-time Non-Sponsored Scholars:

1. Master’s degree in Engineering/ Technology or Master’s degree in Science / Humanities / Management or equivalent in a relevant discipline with 55 % marks in aggregate for general category.

2. The candidate must have a valid Gate score or must have been admitted to the M. Tech Programme with a valid Gate score. For admission to PhD Programmes in Science/Humanities/Management the candidates must have a NET Fellowship (UGC / CSIR) valid from the current year in relevant areas.

3. Provided that the condition for Gate / UGC NET will not be applicable to Full-time Non-Sponsored without scholarship category of candidates.

For Full-time Sponsored Scholars:

Master’s degree in Engineering/ Technology or Master’s degree in Science/ Humanities or equivalent in relevant discipline with 55% marks in aggregate for general category. These candidates must have served with the sponsoring organization for a minimum of 2 years on a full-time basis. The sponsoring organization needs to provide an undertaking.

For Part-Time Scholars:

Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology or Master’s degree in Science/Humanities or equivalent in relevant discipline with 55% marks in aggregate for general category. These candidates must have continued to serve the organization for a minimum of 2 years. The candidate must provide a No-Objection Certificate from the employer.

A. Qualifying Degrees and Other Academic Requirements for OCES/ DGFS

(a) For Engineering Disciplines (codes 21-29): BE/ BTech/ BSc (Engineering) with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks in any of the engineering disciplines and valid GATE Score in the same engineering discipline as the qualifying degree discipline. Those having qualifying degree in branches like Aerospace, Automobile, Industrial Production, Reliability, Ceramics, Architecture, Geology, Mining, Bio-Medical Electronics/ Instruments, Communication, Information Technology, Master of Computer applications, Dyes & Dye Intermediates, Electrochemical, Energy Systems, Oils & Fats, Paints & Varnishes, Petrochemicals, Plastics, Paper, Sugar Technology, Textiles, etc, are not eligible.

(b) For Physics Discipline (code 41): MSc in Physics/ Applied Physics or BE/ BTech in Engineering Physics with minimum of 60% aggregate marks. MSc applicants should have Physics and Mathematics up to BSc or at subsidiary and/or ancillary level in case of five year integrated MSc, with minimum of 60% aggregate marks in MSc as well as in BSc. Applicants opting to be considered on the basis of GATE Score should have valid GATE Score in Physics. For applicants having BE (Engineering Physics) as qualifying degree, valid GATE Score in Engineering Science is also acceptable.

(c) For Chemistry Discipline (code 42): MSc in Chemistry with Physics up to BSc or at subsidiary and/or ancillary level in case of five year integrated MSc and Mathematics up to Std. XII, with minimum of 60%* aggregate marks in MSc as well as in BSc. Applicants opting to be considered on the basis of GATE Score should have valid GATE Score in Chemistry.

(d) For Biosciences Discipline (code 43): MSc in Agriculture, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Genetics, Botany, Zoology, Plant Science, Plant Breeding, Plant Pathology, Entomology, Food Technology, Animal Science, Life Sciences and Biosciences; or BE/ BTech/ BSc (Tech) only in Food Technology with minimum of 60% marks. MSc applicants should have Physics or Chemistry or Biochemistry or Agriculture Chemistry upto BSc or at subsidiary and/or ancillary level in case of five year integrated MSc with minimum of 60% aggregate marks in MSc as well as in BSc .

Applicants opting to be considered on the basis of GATE Score should have valid GATE Score in Life Sciences or in Biotechnology. Those having MSc with specialisation in subjects like Fisheries, Horticulture, Forestry, Agronomy, Animal Husbandry, Marine Biology and Home Science etc and BE/ BTech/ MTech in Biotechnology/ Genetic Engineering are not eligible.

(e) For Radiological Safety Engineering (RSE, code 44): MSc in Physics or Chemistry with Physics and Chemistry up to BSc or at subsidiary and/or ancillary level in case of integrated MSc, and Mathematics up to Std. XII, with minimum of 60%* aggregate marks in MSc as well as in BSc. Those having MSc in Environmental Science are not eligible.

(f) For Geology Discipline (Code 45): MSc in Geology/ Applied Geology/ Applied Geochemistry with both Geology and Mathematics upto BSc. or at subsidiary and/ or ancillary level in case of five year integrated MSc, with minimum of 60% aggregate marks in MSc as well as in BSc. Applicants opting to be considered on the basis of GATE Score should have valid GATE Score in Geology / Geophysics.

(g) For Geophysics Discipline (Code 46): MSc in Geophysics/ Applied Geophysics with Mathematics up to BSc. or at subsidiary and/ or ancillary level in case of five year integrated MSc, with minimum of 60%* aggregate marks in MSc as well as in BSc. Applicants opting to be considered on the basis of GATE Score should have valid GATE Score in Geology / Geophysics.

(h) Those having MSc (by research) or PhD are not eligible.

B. Admission to DGFS

Candidates having qualifying degree in disciplines 21-29 or 41 and who meet the corresponding eligibility criteria listed above are eligible to apply for DGFS provided they secure admission for MTech/ MChem. Engg starting in the academic year 2011 in Institutes in specializations . Confirmation of MTech/ MChem. Engg admission should be communicated by July 20, 2011, failing which offer of DGFS will be withdrawn retaining their options for OCES schemes if any.

C. Age Limit (Age as on August 1, 2011)

a) General Category - 26 years,
b) OBC-29 years,
c) SC/ST–31 years,
d) Dependents of those who died in the riots of 1984 (Dep1984) -31 years,
e) Persons domiciled in Kashmir Division of Jammu & Kashmir State from 01/01/1980 to 31/12/1989 (Dom Kashmir) –31 years.

D. Nationality: Applicant must be a citizen of India.

E. Applicant working in Central/ State Government Units/ PSUs/ Aided Institutions should apply through proper channel.

Application Procedure

A non-refundable application-processing fee of Rs 250 ( Rupees Two Hundred and Fifty) is chargeable from the applicants in General and OBC categories. Women candidates and the candidates belonging to SC/ST and Dependents of Defence Personnel Killed in Action (DODPKIA) and physically challenged candidates are exempted from payment of application fee.

With regard to payment of Application Fee, the candidate may download the three fold challan from the website http://oces.hbni.ac.in and make the payment in any branch of the State Bank of India. There are two modes of application:

(1) Online, and
(2) By Post.

(1) Online Application: After making the payment and getting the UNIQUE TRANSACTION NUMBER, the candidate who is applying online has to enter the said number as response to the relevant query in the online application form.

(2) Application by Post can be made by taking two photocopies on an A4 size (8.3"x11.7") paper of the accompanying format as Application Form. No separate application form is issued. Fill in all the relevant information, paste photographs on both the copies and mail both copies to the address given in the application form. One copy shall be returned to the applicant indicating the application number. That copy should be brought along at the time of appearing for Written Test and/ or Interview.

The portion of the challan marked “Institution Copy” should be mailed along with the application. Candidate shortlisted for interview will have to produce original challan at the time of interview.

BE/ BTech/ BCA/ BSc students can also apply for the integrated MSc-PhD programme, see below.

In addition, talented final year B.Sc. and first year M.Sc. (in Physics / Electronics / Astronomy / Applied Mathematics) students may also apply to be pre-selected for research scholarship at IUCAA. Similar pre-selection is open at SNBNCBS for candidates who also have specialization in Bio-Physics, Optics and Opto-Electronics.

At HRI, IISER Pune, NCRA-TIFR and SNBNCBS, candidates with a Bachelor’s degree will also be considered for the integrated M.Sc. – Ph.D. programme in Physics. At IMSc, graduates with B.Sc. / B.E. / B. Tech. degree will also be considered for admission to M.Sc. (Research) programme in Physics and Theoretical Computer Science, as part of an integrated Ph.D. programme.

At SNBNCBS, graduates with B.Sc. (Physics/Mathematics) / B.E. / B.Tech. degree will be considered for the integrated Post-B.Sc.-Ph.D. programme in subject areas mentioned above.

At IIA, graduates with B.Sc. (Physics / Mathematics) / B.E. / B.Tech. in Electrical / Instrumentation / Engineering Physics / Electronics and Communications / Computer Science and Engineering / Optics and Photonics will be considered.

Integrated M.Tech– Ph.D. Programme at IIA : Graduates with M.Sc. (Physics / Applied Physics) / Post-B.Sc (Hons) B.Tech in Optics and Photonics, Radiophysics and Electronics / B.E. / B.Tech. degree in subjects mentioned above will be considered. Visit IIA website for details.

Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI)

 Applications are hereby invited from Engineering post-graduates for the award of fellowships under the DAE Graduate Fellowship Scheme  for Ph.D. (DGFS- Ph.D.) for pursuing research in an Engineering discipline leading to the award of Ph.D. degree of HBNI. The terms and conditions of the Fellowships are:

1. The DGFS-PhD Fellowship is tenable for three years for doing Ph.D. in an Engineering discipline in one of the four R&D centres listed above.

2. The amount of Fellowship payable under the scheme is Rs.18000/- (likely to be increased) per month besides house rent allowance and medical benefits as per rules.

3. The selected Fellows will carry out research under the joint supervision of two guides, one having strength in basic research and the other in technology development.

4. After the award of the Ph.D., the DGFS-Ph.D. fellows will have the option to appear for selection under K.S. Krishnan Research Associateship (KSKRA) programme without going through further process of screening. KSKRAs are selected every year and paid a stipend of Rs.20,000/- (likely to be revised) + benefits for a maximum period of 2 years. Anytime during the 2nd year of associateship, subject to satisfactory performance, the KSKRAs will be absorbed in one of the R&D centres of DAE as above and appointed in the Grade Scientific Officer (D/E).

Eligibility Criteria

a: Qualifying Degree and other academic qualifications:
Candidates should possess M. E. / M. Tech. or equivalent degree in Mechanical / Chemical/ Metallurgical /Electrical/Electronics / Instrumentation or Computer engineering disciplines with minimum 60% Marks in B.E./B. Tech. and minimum of 60% marks in M.E./ M.Tech. or equivalent degree as per the Ordinance of the respective degree awarding University OR equivalent CGPI (converted to % Marks by multiplying with 100% if the CGPAs on x points scale).

b. Age limit: The candidates desirous of availing DGFS-Ph.D. Fellowship should have been born on or after January 1, 1983. Age limit is relaxable by three years for OBC and by Eve years for SC/ST applicants. The age limit for the candidates working as faculty in Engineering Colleges desirous of doing Ph.D. without the fellowship grant is 40 years.

c. Nationality: Applicant should be an Indian citizen.

For M.Tech. Programs

For admission to M.Tech. Programmes the applicant must have passed the qualifying examination of Bachelor of Engineering / Bachelor of Technology from a recognized University with minimum 55% marks (or equivalent cumulative grade point index) or any other qualifying degree examination considered as equivalent by Nirma University. (With minimum 55% marks or equivalent CPI).

For sponsored category the applicants must have 55% of aggregate marks or an equivalent cumulative grade point index in the qualifying examination and at least 2 years of experience in the concerned field after passing qualifying examination on the date of interview of admission. He / She should produce certificate from the sponsoring organization in the Performa provided in the application form along with experience certificate, last pay certificate and provident fund slip.

For all categories if applicant has passed the qualifying examination from University other than Nirma University he/she will be required to obtain eligibility certificate from Nirma University. The arrangement for obtaining the same will be made on the spot on payment of Rs. 500/-.

For Ph.D. Program:

The candidates holding Master Degree or equivalent with 60% or equivalent grade from the recognized university will be considered eligible for registration for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the relevant Programme.

Women Scientists Fellowship Scheme (WOS-B) – 2010





The Fellowship Scheme for Women Scientists for societal programmes is initiative of the Department of Science & Technology. This scheme is addressed to women scientists and technologists who have “break in their careers” due to social responsibilities but have desire to return to mainstream science and work as bench-level scientists. All those women having a burning desire to utilize their scientific acumen through active research and development projects which are aimed at meeting societal needs and aspirations are eligible. Women scientists desiring to apply for this scheme are required to develop their own research project / proposals demonstrating science and technological applications for societal benefits.

Objectives

Provide an opportunity for women scientists to re-enter into active research after a break in career, through support for S&T based R&D projects addressing the needs of people in unorganized urban or rural areas and

Provide an opportunity for S&T capacity building of women on issues relevant in societal programmes.

Project Proposals For

Research, development and adaptation of technology to improve the quality of life and provide additional opportunities for income generation in rural areas or urban slums.

Adaptation and transfer of an innovative technology developed at laboratory level to field.

Capacity building of applicant in technology areas relevant to the needs in rural areas.

Nature of Support

Support will include a scholarship grant of Rs.15,000 per month for a period of two years for candidates with Ph.D., M.Tech., MS/MD and Rs.10,000 per month for candidates having post graduate degree for a period of two years.

Grant for minor equipment, consumables, contingencies, travel and overheads will also be considered if found necessary under the work plan.

Who Can Apply

Indian nationals living in India and who are currently not employed in permanent position and who possess one of the following qualifications

Ph.D. or masters degree in science.

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering or technology, architecture, medicine or pharmacy.

Who have break in career after the last degree received for at least three years.

Whose age is below 50 years at the time of applying.

Candidates selected for award of the fellowship are not expected to register for higher degree (Ph.D., etc.) during the period of fellowship.

Candidates already having a permanent jobs or fellowship will not be considered unless they advance cogent reasons for making the change. In such cases the application should be accompanied by a letter from the Head of the Institution agreeing to relieve the candidate.

Other Requirements

The project proposal must show an active association with a field agency in regard to implementation of the project irrespective of the fact whether the candidate is attached to an educational institution or R&D institution or any other agency. A letter to that effect from field agency is required.

A certificate from the host institution, for extending infrastructural or administrative support for the project must be enclosed with the application. Similarly, a certificate from the identified field agency showing the agreement to get associated with the project is also required.

If the proposal includes clinical trials involving humans or animals necessary ethical clearance following ICMR/ CPCSEA guidelines must be submitted along with the proposal.

Duration of Fellowship

The scholarship will be given initially for duration of two years. The period may be extended to the third year in exceptional cases, if recommended by Experts during periodic reviews.

Selection Mechanism

A Committee of Experts will be involved in the selection process. The two-tier selection process will be adopted involving initial screening and subsequent individual presentation by the screened-in candidates before a group of Experts. The selected candidates will be informed by post. The list of selected candidates can also be seen on the website.

Application procedure: The Information Brochure (Ph.D. Prospectus) containing application forms and other details for research programmes are available on sale counter (Registration Branch) on payment of Rs. 500/- (Rs. 125/- in case of SC/BC candidates of Haryana) w.e.f. 16.11.2009 to 10.12.2009. Candidates may obtain the same by post from Asstt. Registrar (Regh.) upto 04.12.2009 by sending Demand Draft of Rs. 550/- (Rs. 175/- in case of SC/BC candidates of Haryana) in favour of ‘Registrar, GJUS & T, Hisar' payable at Hisar:

The application forms and other details may be downloaded from University website www.giu.ernet.in also. Such application must be attached with a Bank Draft of Rs. 500/- (Rs, 125/- in case of SC/BC candidates of Haryana).

Candidates applying for more than one department should submit separate application for each department. Reservation is applicable for SC/ST candidates as per Haryana State Govt. policy.

Scholarships : Candidates admitted for Ph.D. programme should have to stay in the University for Pre-Ph.D. course of one semester The Ph.D. Scholarships would be awarded to the whole time research scholars with a scholarship of Rs.18000/- per month and an additional amount of Rs. 5000/- (contingency expenses). In addition to above, there is one University Research Scholarship of Rs. 5000/- per month for Ph.D. programme in each department.

For award of scholarships, candidates are required to appear in Entrance Test. The Entrance Test will be of two hours duration with 100 marks consisting of 50 questions of one marks each (objective type) and 10 questions of five marks each (subjective type).
