IITs offer early entry research admission to NITs students

At under graduate level, JEE is the norm for entry into IITs, now JEE Advanced. However, soon we may see a change in this, as IITs BoDs have taken a decision to allow NITs final students to complete studies in IITs. This facility will be available to few selected students of NITs.
This decision has been taken according to Anil Kakodakar’s Committee report, and will be placed before standing committee for approval.

This move will ensure that the IITs resources will be utilized optimally by attracting better students for research programs leading to award of PhD degrees. The suggestion was made by the Anil Kakodkar committee in its April 2011 report titled 'Taking IITs to Excellence and Greater Relevance'.

Kakodkar committee report suggested that while intense efforts had been proposed to attract IIT grads into the PhD programme, it was also necessary to attract students from other top engineering schools. "The NITs, along with some of the better engineering education institutions, should become important feeders of quality graduates into post-graduate and research programmes, including at the IITs," the report said.

The selection will work roughly in following manners-

The bright students in any NIT will be recommended to IITs where they shall be interviewed by IIT panels for research potential.
The selected students will be admitted to IIT campus for completion of final year studies and further to pursue research program leading to award of PhD degrees.
The graduate degree will be awarded by NIT, however; the PhD degree will be awarded by IIT.

IIT Delhi UG Admission 2013 will be based on New JEE

The IIT Delhi will offer admission to Under Graduate Courses 2013 on the basis of new JEE. The IIT council has accepted the new format with recommendation that either a student should be among top 20 percentile scorer
or he / she should have scored minimum 60% at the board examination to be eligible to write JEE Advanced. The council also recommended that the syllabus for JEE Main and JEE Advanced should be identical. For 2014 admission onwards the council agreed upon setting up a committee to look into the currenttly proposed admission process through JEE. It is to be noted that by now all IITs are agreed to offer admission into under graduate programs 2013 on the basis of new JEE. While admission into 2014 its likely that IITs will come up with certain recommendations.

Oxford to digitize Shakespeares Plays

The buzz is that, the University of Oxford has launched a fund raising initiative to digitize the First Folio 1623, i.e. First Edition of William Shakespeare's plays and make it available online.
In May last First Folio was shown to noted Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan during his visit. It's very rarely shown to visitor due to worn conditions. The campaign by Oxfords Bodleian Library is called Sprint for Shakespeare. Nearly 1000 will be digitized and fund will also be raised to stabilise and protect the First Folio.

CBSE to offere open book board exam begining 2013

The Central Board of Secondary Education - CBSE, New Delhi will offer open book exam for CBSE Class 10th and CBSE Class 12th beginning academic session CBSE 2013-14. The new system will test the students on what one did understand from the curriculum instead of memory based testing. The exam will be capable of testing students analytical abilities.


The new exam will be called Pre Announced Test - PAT; students will be told question format 4months prior to exam. Level of question will be high in open book exam format. A formal announcement is expected around December this year in this regard.

In My personal opinion- Open book exam will be definitely tough, however, not beyond reach if should have understood the course material. I will like to summarize difficulty level of open book exam as follows-

2+2 = ? Ans 4 - Simple Exam

2+2 = 5-1 = x+1; what is x here - Open book exam.

Open book exam will be more beneficial to students, it will require you study round the year instead of few weeks or month before exam.

NIT Sumari to be set up soon

According to PTI News Sources, a new National Institute of Technology, NIT would be set up in Sumari, Pauri District of Uttarakhand, under the NIT Act of Goverment of India. The funds are already sanctioned by Central Goverment to set up the NIT Sumari.

IIT Kanpur approves new JEE for IITK UG Admission 2013

The buzz is that, the IIT Kanpur has accepted new JEE format proposed by Joint Admission Board and HRD Ministry altogether. With the JEE Limbo came to halt. With the acceptance of IIT Kanpur, it became clearer that all IITs will make Enginering/Sciences 2013 Admission in UG programs on the basis of JEE Advanced 2013.

The new JEE will be somewhat like this-

• The JEE 2013 will be two stage test, JEE Main and JEE Advanced
• JEE Advanced will be exclusively for IITs UG Admission in Sciences and Engineering.
• The top 20 percentile scorer will be eligible to write JEE Advanced from the merit of JEE Main.

The more exact details about JEE 2013 will be available soon.

The questions in JEE Main and JEE Advanced will be asked from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics of Class 11th and 12th standard.

Anti ragging portal is live now off course to curb ragging evil prevailing everywhere in the world. Now students who are ragged or harassed by senior batch mates may raise a complain via http://www.antiragging.in/ and immediate action will be taken.


In the past couple of years, specially in past a decade some major mishaps happens and horrible deaths, precious lives lost in the name of ragging. Students and parents lost faith in senior boys and girls and in academic systems. We all know one rotten egg spoils full basket of eggs, that not mean all eggs were rotten. In the past what happens were not ragging, those incidents were plain crime. Ragging means positive training and not torture in the name of ragging.

Anti Ragging initiative is definitely one of the good initiative to restore faith in academic administration, the success of this portal will depend on senior boys and girls how they will treat their young brothers and sisters on the same campus.

Seniors needed to inculcate a culture in the campus and not to make the campus and hostels a living hell. Only ani ragging portal is not enough, some kind of induction program is necessary to run across all campuses on campus behavior and ethics.

Personally i will say, if someone harassing you in the campus or hostel, have enough courage to ask the fellow to not to do so. For example if a senior batch mate is pulling your ears, request him in gentle manner to stop the act. BE GENTLE AS MUCH AS YOU CAN, AFTER ALL HE / SHE IS YOUR SENIOR.

CAT 2012 - Common Admission Test

Registration will open from 30th July 2012 to 19 October 2012

Prometric is IIMs partner for developing and delivering CAT 2012. The IIM Kozhikode is the administering authority for CAT 2012 administration. The test will be held from 11 October 2012 to 6 November 2012.

The CAT 2012 will be delivered in similar lines of CAT 2012. However, number of registration dates are quite more compared to past years.

CAT 2012 Eligibility Criteria

To appear in CAT 2012 one must require 50% marks in graduation exam or equivalent CGPA. In case of SC, ST, PD/PWD i.e. for handicapped people this eligibility is 45%.

Reservations Criteria

15% of the seats are reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC) and 7½% for Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates. 27% of seats are reserved for Other Backward Classes candidates belonging to the “non-creamy” layer (NC-OBC).

For state wise OBC eligibility and NC OBC eligibility log on to www.ncbc.nic.in 

Differently Abled (DA) candidates who are suffring with following disabilities
a) low-vision/blindness,
b) hearing impairment,
and c) locomotor disability/cerebral palsy.
This provision is applicable if the candidate suffers from any of the listed disabilities to the extent of not less than 40%, as certified by a medical authority as prescribed and explained in the said Act.

IIMs Selection Process

The IIMs will shortlist candidates on the basis of score in CAT 2012 for admission into various management programs begining 2013. The shortlisted candidates may require to appear for Written Ability Test - WAT, Group Discussion - GD, and Personal Interview - PI.

CAT 2012 Result will be declared on January 9, 2012 after which IIMs will display the list of shortlisted candidates on its website. Candidates will also be informed via postal communication in this regard.

Online Portal will act on ragging complaints within 15 minutes

The standard of education has gone down to manifolds in past decades, may be the bookish knowledge has improved and boys and girls has attained new heights, but human behavior has deteriorated inside the educational institutions in India.
So many deaths happened in the name of ragging and institutes are nearly forced to open Special Cell for Woman to make complaints related sexual harassment. It is scary, shameful and .... what not, in a country like India where women are worshiped; guys and galz are taught from childhood to help others, where teacher is a mentor and has place above God, training institutes are above any church, mosque or temple, in the same country, students misbehaved inside academic institutions and in some case even precious lives lost. This is not academic education but a sort of social shortcomings.

Ragging is a menace and perhaps the biggest evil inside academic institutions, though prohibited by law, but still prevails.

To fight up ragging menace the HRD ministry soon launching a web portal where a complaint will be look after within 15 minutes after registering complaint.

Do not abuse them, do not beat them, rather teach them so they can carry the anti ragging torch lit by you and hand it over to their juniors in succession. Teach your juniors, treat your younger friends, develop courage them, guide them towards the right path, so they can be proud of you and so the world.
